What sort of length is that one M & J? I remember casting for live bait at North Shore Maroochy and thought I'd hit the jackpot with a school of mullet until I pulled the net out :( ...3 doz or more of these catfish-looking creatures exactly like the one you caught between 6-8 inches long...juvenile catfish apparently....:) and they loose their fins and tails when adult?

think you'll also find that those little eel tails with black and white stripes lose their stripes with maturity and turn into those ugly suckers. once had a skipper drop the cod end off the capstans and had my head gashed by the biggest 1 of them bastards ive ever seen. hurt like buggery too for about 8 hours.:bigcry:

marty, i can sincerely tell you that i wish i couldn't id those things. copped a few finger stings from em on the sorting tray and 8 hours was the average pain period. the poison in em travels up the arm until it reaches the armpit and by this time the arm is useless. i did find that sucking out the poison and getting as much blood as possible out of the spike hole (swinging arm quickly) could reduce the pain to about 2 hours. was bloody hard trying that on a head wound tho;). and i'm sending you a pm re spot x;D

Did a season on a trawler in 97 and got a few tingles off of a cobbler myself...........they reckon CRC was the remedy...LOL...

Had one fall from the net while shaking out the grinners and it spiked me in the top off the head....Ha.......yer.....lovely....

Fresh ones in the try gear are the worst ones, occasionally we'll get em up here on hook but usually we don't see em unless trawled...........thank god.
