View Full Version : First time to Hervey Bay
Heading to Hervey Bay end of next week. Just seeing how people have been going up there of late and whether the pelagics are still going off? Have never fished there before but have been told head up the western side of Fraser up towards Wathumba and should be plenty of pelagics around, fingers crossed. Anyone got any more advice?
Cheers Cody

Hey Cody I have been holidaying up there for approx 40 years and we love the place. It certainly does not fish like it did some years ago but you will ejoy it all. Heading up the island is just an experence in itself, dolfins, whales and surface feeding fish if your lucky. Fishing the artifical reef and down around Kingfisher resort can also result in some good catches.
Hope you enjoy your time up there....... wish we were going as well, this will be the first year in about five we are not going unfortunately work and other commitments have got in the way.

Hi Cody,
Was up there a couple of weeks ago chasing spotties and longtails. Found most schools between Station Hill and Rooneys. There were plenty of large baitballs and 6-8kg spotties, plenty of them too. Longtails were few and far between though, with a few mack tuna around. Follow the white birds and you will find the schools. Don't worry about the black birds you will just burn juice chasing nothing if you follow them. Good luck with it mate.

We will be up there too at the end of next week, but will be staying up at Burrum heads. Apparently the Arty at Woody Island is fishing ok at the moment too. A few Macks, but big GT's. A mate up there says you cant get anything under 40cms to the boat without it being taken. He also says there are a lot of sharks around at the moment too, so wind quick.
We are planning a couple of runs to Burrum 8 Mile, and a day at Rooneys. If you see a white Centre console with blue deck and a 115 Suzuki on the back, pop over and say gidday

You know there appears to a lot of us on here that go to Hervey Bay for holidays and fishing, maybe we should try to hook up some times lets face it a few boats can often locate the fish better than one and when travelling far up the island its nice to have other boats around for the safety asspect. Just a thought?????.

I'm heading up there for the first time on the 21st Jan. Yes and would love to catch up on the water with a few other Ausfish members.
Thanks guys
Tidemaster would you happen to have some genreral GPS marks for the arti near Woody Island? will keep an eye out for you when I am up there.
I will be up there from the 16th to the 19th so if you guys want to get a group together send me a PM. Sounds like most are going up a few days after I leave though. I only have a quinine hornet 4.4 so may be pushing to keep up with most.
Cheers Cody

Hi Cody,
Check out www.fishntales.com (http://www.fishntales.com) this is the local forum for Hervey Bay. Lots of info including some general gps marks. A good bunch of people too who are always willing to help out.

PM Box is full Cody
Clear some space and let me know. I think one PM went through with the artificial marks from fishntales which are a really good start. What I was going to suggest is that we (and anyone else that is going to be up there next week) exchange mobile numbers so we can feed each other some intel on whats going on where.
