Hi all,

I live on Brisbane's northside and I am after a new outboard for my boat. There doesn't seem to be a dealer on the northside that does Suzuki anymore?

Open to any feedback.

Try Origin Boats at Clontarf i think that they are a Suzuki dealer otherwise I bought my Merc from Bribie Boat Sales.

2 stroke or 4 stroke? If 2 stroke, they're very similar motors, basic twin cylinder single carby 2 strokes which any mechanic can service and not a whole lot to go wrong. I have a 30hp Mariner (same as Merc, manufactured in Japan by Tohatsu) which has been good. What sort of boat is it going on? Have heard good things about the Suzuki 30 so I would be inclined to go with which is the better deal, mine was part of a package and I got a good price otherwise would have been open to other brands.

Should have specified sorry. 2 stroke only. It is going on a 3.8m fiberglass boat.

I've spoken to the boys at Origin and they only do packages unfortunately. He put me onto Jeffers Motorsport Marine

Cunningham don't do suzuki anymore, so the sales rep told me 2 weeks ago anyway.

Jeffers is at burpengary is the go.

At the end of the day not much in them, I am happy with mine, go with whichever you can get the best price on would be my advice.

I had the 30hp suzuki and it was a great little motor. the reason I went with it was the electric start for less than the tohatsu or merc. I also have had a 30hp tohatsu(merc) and there is not much in them

Had a 03' 30 tiller Tohatsu, very easy to start and cheap to run and own. Cheaper than the Merc re-badge for the same motor. 3 year warranty too I think. Liked mine so much I bought a new Tojo 90 for my current boat. Very happy.

The Suzuki has a better gear shift lever, it is placed on the front of the motor instead of the side like the Merc, much better to use

I asked Jeffers about an electric start 30hp 2 stroke Suzi for my creek boat when I put my old Tohatsu in for a service last week.
Good price I thought, plus if you buy before Xmas, apparently Suzuki (not Jeffers) are throwing in a hand held GPS unit (maybe worth a hunjie or more ?).

Love my 4 stroke 90 Suzi. Reckon I'll be getting me a 30 2 stroke Suzi before long too.

Cheers

my local guy has a new Suzuki 30HP on special at the moment, I saw it when I went in there on saturday, I think is was an old stock or showroom stock deal or something, they also sell Merc, so I will go and compare prices just for fun tomorrow when I go back there.

Just over 3300 (from memory). I didn't haggle or ask if that was fitted, but it did have the happy button (leccy start).

My kid told me his mate got a 30 Merc recently for 3k. Don't know where from or if that had a happy button, or even if it was exactly 3k.

Personally.... I'd pay 300 more for the Suzi. Don't ask me why.

Cheers

I am not a great fan of the small Suzuki 2 strokes, but they seem to go OK and not give too many dramas, they just sound a bit. . . tinny? or something but if the price was right, I would certainly buy one

Wouldn't believe it. Sold my 4WD drive recently and was relying on the old boys. He's got a special mount on his tow bar as he tows a caravan and didnt have a big enough shifter to undo it as the coupling wouldnt sit properly. Will have to wait until after Xmas now!
