Hey all I live in cairns and on Sunday arvo was fishing one of our inshore wrecks,I was using my barra outfit 6/8kg overhead. Jigging large plastics over and around the wreck. We managed to pull up two rather small cod and all other fish what ever they were we could not get them up. They were big.
I ended up braking my rod(tackle shop replaced it today which I was very happy about).
So I was wondering what is a good outfit for dropping plastics.
Im after something mid priced that will do the job.
Let me know your thoughts

Cheers Marty

My latest rod was a Rovex 7ft 8kg nice whippy end with a shim sienna 2500 with 10 lb fins braid.
Have been nailing snapper around 50cm on plastics.
I love it.

My heavy plastics rod is a Fin-Nor Ahab. It is 7' and rated 30lb-50lb but is very light and sensitive and suits an 8000 sized Shimano spin reel nicely

the Fin-Nor Ahab is usually over $200 but the come on special for about half that price at times. A reasonable Shimano reel will be a little over $200

Agree with Horse. The double of Nannygai in my avatar were nailed on the same rod. Very nice and lots of power. Match that to a Saragosa 6K to 10K size with 40 to 50 lb braid and you are in with a shot.

Sounds like you fished the Green island wreck? They could have been GTs That wreck has some monster GTs on it to 100 lbs so even this outfit will struggle. It will be fun though!!
