I use to build them when I worked for Angler rods. I wouldnt one one if It was given to me. There is simply much better blanks around that have better actions, better casting and more grunt in the butt of the blank than this old tech blank. Any of the FSU4140G 2pc blanks would be a go to over the 7177. If you love that blank /rod then thats cool, Im pretty sure you can get that exact blank in a 2pc, call Excell composites in Bribane and ask for Steve or Karen.

Struth-these other blanks you mention must be very good,Those 'old tec 7177's' have never let me down-6ft sharks -no problems.

What is the length of the FSU 4140 ?how many wraps? why is is better? I am interested in a new 2 piece with this blank you mention.

Yes my 7177 greenback is made by 'Angler rods' bit shocked to find out its only rubbish

Mate, can only tell you that the FSU 4140 would be 4 wraps of fibreglass and 140 inches long, or 11 feet 8 inches.

I can't comment further than that, except to say if I was receiving advice from Stuart, I'd certainly take it.

TOL

PS: I don't think I could hold on to that 7177 rod of yours for too long. Sure is a big mother.

Didnt say it was rubbish, perhaps you need to read my post again. As I said, I dont like them due to the way I fish, if you like them thats all thats important. The 7177 is an all E -glass blank. Glass is old tech and thats not new information, you can do quite a bit with glass. The FSU4140G has less glass and a bit more carbon which makes it much lighter and offers more power. There is a ratio for carbon to glass and that ratio is 3 to 1. For 1 wrap of carbon you deduct 3 wraps of glass. Thats the key to weight saving and power. Take from that what you will darter, I dont offer advice unless I know what Im talking about.
