Dang it!! snapped the tip off my brand new soft plastic combo!!! Anyone know if there's a way to fix it or someone who can? Or do I just have to fork out the money for a new rod??
It's a Shimano Catana 6'10'' rod if that makes any difference, really soft tip and it snapped when I was getting it out of the car between spots like the clumsy %(^head i am!! Any help or suggestions would be awesome!!
thanks,
Tristo
they are not really repairable unless its snapped up near the tip and you can stick another guide tip on it but you completely change the action of the rod even if its only two inches and will become stiffer and obvioulsy shorter. How much broke off?

Join the club, I just superglued a pistol grip but onto the rod as it was loose, got it about 8 deg off centre, but it works...................
must be the heat..................

yeah i lost about 2 or so inches maybe less, there's no way i could reinforce it with a bit of wire or something and araldite it up or something? I'll obviously lose some of the action but was thinking that may work. Im really new at this so not sure. kept fishing with it and as you say the action was completely different and because of the tight estuary i was fishing, i ended up snagging a lot of trees/reeds and eventually gave up after losing a whole pack of jig hooks and softies... not a great day fishing all in all hahaha

also it's a rod that breaks down in the middle, am I able to buy just the top half? Or isn't that possible? I just know that Im not the first person to do this so there must be a way to overcome the problem without spending another 100 bucks on a new rod. Like the idea of adding a new guide though, ive only had the rod a few weeks so im still getting the hang of the action anyway and my local spot is a nice big open estuary so it is accommodating for blokes like me who need to work on accuracy.

yeah you may be able to get a replacement top section. i did that with a shimano raider once for 50 bucks i think. if you wanted to repair it, two inches is just doable but if its close to the first line guide back from the tip they will most likely take this off. you will lose a bit of casting distance and sensitivity but may be more suited to other forms of fishing. i would just buy a new top section if its around fifty.

cool, cheers for the advice fellas! I'll go speak to the shop where I bought it and see what they say, might just put a new guide on and get used to the change in action.

I have an old Daiwa Black Widow, BW50 5ft 6in, 5 inches missing, I rearranged the top 3 runners and now have a 5 ft .5 inch rod, I played with it today and it will works, and will be good in the canoe. It's rated to 20lb.
You can always keep it for a spare..

had another look at it and it's only the top inch or so so took it to the local shop and they advised just putting a new top guide on and that the action wouldnt be affected too much. Gonna give it a try this afternoon on the high tide so I'll see if it made a difference or not. I'm no rex hunt so im guessing I won't notice it at all anyway.
