Hi all. I have an old mid size plano fold out tackle box which does not suit my plastics collection
and I'm looking to go to a 5 tray soft bag that will take the long Plano boxes and still have room in the top for leaders, scalers, rulers, etc. Can anyone recommend one and best place to buy. Happy to buy overseas if big difference in price. Cheers

I have gone the other way from where you are headed Scott.
I removed the trays from a tackle bag and retained one tray for jigheads that fits in the front pocket and divided the main compartment into three areas for bags of plastics, one curl-tails, one paddle-tails and one jerkbait types. Working for me well. Can fit a much bigger range into the one bag now.
Leaders and snips go into the side pockets.

i am about to change to hard tray after many years,i have tried, berkley, squidgy and a few bcf brands,it seems to me they cant take weekly beatings of being opened and shut,no zippers have failed yet,but most stitch lines do as well as the sleeves after a while.
maybe i overfill them,or am a bit rough, not sure,or maybe they only designed to last 12 months.

There is quite a few very good quality bags out there that can essentially become a fishing bag assumming its water proof enough.

Columbia also make some pretty good bags.

Thanks very much Gents. I was looking at the Plano 797 ad similar - hard boxes that allow the hard hard boxes to go into them. I think though soft boxes would be easier to carry around, lighter and more flexible in terms of options and packing.

Dan - does the Shimano have sliders or guides inside or are the plano type boxes just stacked vertically beside one another and rely on the others not to fall over? I was wondering about the Shimano in that sense.

Has anyone looked at the (much more expensive than Shimano) Black Magic Tackle Bags that look like they are made in NZ? They are a side loading system with guides for the boxes?

Cheers
