Thinking of retiring one of my older penn reels that currently reside on the luvias rod. I am unsure what reel to try out. I have a few ideas in mind but want to see what others experience are with them. The rod is mainly used for trevs/light jacks/flatties etc etc will be running 8-12lb braid.

I think i will purchase off ebay so I will throw in postage costs.

Daiwa freams 2000 AU $159.53+AU $24.17
Daiwa caldia 2000 $210.50+AU $14.50
Shimano rarenium 235.91+AU $19.33

there is a few other reels around that price but I have just mentioned the ones I have not had experience with. I am leaning towards the calida at the moment I think

which caldia, i think there is two types, one with a silver zaion body, the other not as good with white body. caldia with zaion body is lighter than the white caldia and freams and has all the features a freams has. I would go the silver caldia with zaion body but the freams is nice reel. bit hard to separate.

I was talking the older white Caldia, The newer one is a bit $$ I think. Trying to find a price now.

i had a diawa caldia and sol and would never buy dawa again. there drags are not smooth and the noise that comes out of the gears is crap! i have 3000's and now just keep them aside for friends to fish with. im shimano through and through now. i agree with horse or even a stradic ci4. they are both smooth reels.

The Sustain would certianly be a sweet reel!
We christened a few Penn Conquers on the weekend and were impressed. Only the first time out but they certainly did the job on all the fish we got. We picked ours up for 100 bucks so loving it!!

i reckon you should save a few more pennies and match the reel to the rod..yes they are more expensive but i believe well worth it for that really good rod you have..IMO its only another $100 bucks really:)

I already have a luvias reel I put it onto my samurai. But I had a thought of putting it back on and a different reel on the samurai. So many choices ;p
