so far fishing for jacks I have only gotten the 45cm or under specimens and I was wondering if anyone had any advice about getting big jack on plastics and hard bodies and if so what should I be using. (what: plastics, line, hard bodies, and weight/jig head size should I use to get the best results):o

have been throwing around 4" hollowbellies/ squidgy fish in 80,100mm for them Heavy duty 3/0-4/0 hook on a 1/8th jighead. Have not found many big ones this season yet. Last year my PB of 53cm came from a 3" pearl watermelon minnow.

Make a few thousand more casts mate......sooner or later you will strike what works for you.
From my experience, jacks are not too fussy, anything between 80 and 140mm will do, so I would think more hours are needed for your cherry to pop.

Not sure if this is your type of application as it is offshore but the theory should be the same. Big Jacks like big baits. This is a 7 inch Slam jerk shad. We've got Jacks as small as 60 cm on live baits as big as 35 cm (Stipeys) so they will have a crack at the big placcy's.
If I target big Jacks though I usually stick with the big Liveys over SPs.

if you want big jacks you need to fish offshore reefs they rarely ever stay in an estuary system much past 400mm even though the odd fish up to 600mm gets taken once in a while
they school up on a number of reefs and wrecks but for some reason they are very hard to catch with any consistency
there is a local offshore wreck up here that a mate fishes and he comes up with a horse occasionally and he reckons his best is 12kg but he misses out more often than not

been reading this thread.......
Anyway i took the canoe up a creek where they are getting jacks...........
i could hardly cast a plastic on 35lb line.......
Anyway, I explored a new creek, I think I was overgunned today.
I think I'll go back to 15 lb gear...
I got a 4 kg jack a few years back on same gear.......... first cast..
Gotta be realistic from now on............
