Just wondering if anyone here has ever purchased reels of ebay, and found that they do not match the discription as advertised.
I purchased two reels to find both had much small line capacity than was stated. The model type and number was correct, but the details of how much of a certain size line the spool could take was much less than was on the item discription.I am feeling rather deflated after just unpacking them:'(
Not sure if the seller will give me any re-course.Anyone have any advice.
Cheers.

What type of reels were they? If the line capacity is not how it is described you can contact the seller and they should offer a refund, if they don't you can take it further by going to ebay's dispute resolution, I think you have 28 days to lodge a dispute. Just check that the listing didn't have multiple model specs in the listing.
Good luck

Here are the reels I got
http://www.ebay.com/itm/400251854464?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_2925wt_1037
it has the same name as the one I got,but much less line capacity.
the other is so so tiny, basically useless for me.But lucky not much money involved

If anyone knows a similar looking reel (I like the 'egg handle") to the ZA 60 let me know thanks

Nothing wrong with those models from Penn if you get them from a reputable store.

Just get some cheap rod and give it to a mate to use !!
I would just use the one you have, it might be ok for Bream, Whiting, Flathead, Tailor etc...
You can't have to many rods and reels !!!

I bought 8 Penn Conquers off a NSW store recently, three for me, three for my brother and a couple of mates jumped on board and got one each due to the bargain price. The 4000 size down were $100 and 5000 up $110. The sale might still be on. PM me if you like.
We are yet to use ours but they come with great reputations for there price bracket which is usually around $250 so for 110 bucks you can't go wrong.
I'd been seraching for ages for a deal on one including the bay and the best yet was still well over 150 bucks. That's usually a good sign of quality if you look for long enough and prices remain high.

Mate The brands that you buy off EBay if they are not the brands that australian tackle stores stock then you will have issues with parts when the time comes for repairs are impossible to obtain.

Ok,thanks for that info-so around "$150 mark" is the sign of a proper quality reel.
I have sent you a PM too.Thanks

Darter Darter Darter.
If you have paid for your purchase using Paypal you do have some recourse. You notify the seller that there item is not as desrcibed and give them the opportunity to sort it. If that does not work for you you then can lodge a Paypal claim based on the fact that the items are not as described and Paypal will freeze those funds from the sellers account til such time as the claim is sorted.

Just been through that myself with 2 purchases Steeler4. Ebaqy and paypal did not give a $hit about me as the buyer. They found for the seller, thats where they get their money. From the seller, so they tend not to burn them. I do not touch ebay anymore, my little protest against their ethics conditions and the way they work with paypal making it mandatory that you have to offer paypal as a method of payment. Ebay can get stuffed forever as far as I am concerned. END OF TANTY................::)

Ebay is a sham these days, what was the reel you purchased?
I bet you can get it down the local BCF for the same price.
Most good sellers on eBay are associated with good online stores anyway (so go to the real online store), the rest are just rip off merchants selling old liquidated redundant crap for a high price.

you really have to know what your buying on ebay before you bid. if you dont know what it is then you should track it down and go to a shop to see it before buying it so you dont become dissapointed.

Its all no 'biggy' gentleman. If you follow the links given,You will see the reels.
Is not a huge amount of money involved,it turns out my son wants one,so he will end
up with one.But I am just Pi$$ed of the line capacity stated is nothing like what is written
on the reels supplied-I f I served the wrong course for a group of people-I get complaints.
I just think its wrong, and even though its not a huge amount ($55) I'll give them a serve
of my not impressed.
I will look at some 'Proper' reels -Penn look like what I am after-I saw a 'Penn 950' in a shop
It looks like what I want-but not quite that size.Any suggestions or linkys-Thanks

Hi Folks.
As mentioned I contacted the seller.and pointed out the disparity of the line capacity of a given braking strain did not match
the reels advertised. They said there recent shipment was 'smaller' than previous ones, and want me to send them back (at my
expense),and the will send me something closer to what I thought I'd bought.
I have not used ebay much,so what is the best thing to do here-pressure seller for some sort of refund? They clearly have pointed out that they agree there is a disparity. But I have to pay!-I'd have thought they would offer some sort of partial refund-or discount coupon.Any advice form more experienced ebay users-most welcome-thanks.

i would make sure they are going to send the new ones before sending the other back.i would look at it this way keep the reels and im sure if you fish the bay or creeks the line capacity is enough once worn out or broken buy new penn, shimano etc they have a range from cheap to exxy

That response is actually correct. To send back you have to pay unless the otherwise stated. Depends on how much you paid in the first place and whether it's worth it. You could say I'll keep them but I still want the right reels and get a discount on the other two. This will leave you with 4 reels though and they may not be that good a quality!!
You can send them back for a refund and start again and you are only out of poccket the postage. They should let you do that.
Personally I'd threaten negative feedback first to see if they give you a full refund and reel reutrn at no cost to you. If they say no, cut my losses, keep the reels and get two others more suitable from somewhere else and give negative feedback.
My son and i have bought 4 rods online, they were exactly as described and work just perfectly.................however, i mainly buy from Cabelas The Outdoor outfitters, fantastic products, incredibly fast service.

'Caveat emptor ' certainly applies to the 'bay.
Having said that, you can do well, with due diligence and research.
99+% positive feedback is a good start.
At the mo' some of the US sellers are very attractive given the current value of the $Aus.
Make sure you check the shipping charges tho'!

The seller is asking of you to return the items is actually how the process works re Paypal claim. The buyer returns the items registered post as a proof of delivery method.
Depending on how long ago your purchase was you still have this course of action available to you and there correspondence regarding the item only vindicates your disappointment and if you choose to do so that correspondence should be part of the info sent to Paypal when you are asked to forward all relevant info regarding the purchase and the reasons behind your claim of not receiving an item as described.
