just been looking at some USA longboats (andros backwater, panga marine) reading though the specs it says draft 6 and 7 inch, when reading specs is the draft measured with the boat unloaded just floating?I can't imagine you would been running along in that depth,is that where outboard jacking plates come into play.wondered what other members boats can plane or trim up and float in.also noticed a mob in tweed have the old yamaha longboat hulls imported from UAE has any one been in one cheers Yamp

They float in that much water with the motor trimmed right up and no chance even with a jack plate of getting it to travel through 150mm water
loaded they don't draw much more at all if the load is level 5 blokes and 300ltr fuel only make mine go down bugger all
the old yammy work boat hulls actually go better than the ub hulls, I have had both
cheers

I have been in the Yammy longboats in PNG. Took a beating from the locals. Not sure what they draw but it's not much. Bottom is pretty flat. My boat is a 6 metre Monier (same hull as Flexihull) and draws about 7/8 inches but that's with the motor up.

they are a great design. a few years ago i spent 3 weeks in the solomon islands island hopping. It was july and did some 50 mile open water crossings getting to remote places in 20 plus winds and chop. Skinny, very sharp entry and low deadrise and they bounced from wave to wave but we got there and we got there fast and wet

Thanks for feedback NBC boats look pretty good too bad a mob like Haines don't do a longboat.hoges have you been happy with the poly Ifish cq what was the main benifits with the yamaha work boats to southwinds I have found a couple of mobs overseas that make them best year and the company that makes them in UAE which are imported by the mob at the tweed .I noticed the shorter ones below 22 ft don t have self draining decks not sure if that's good or bad whats your experience with self draining decks?I know good wins aren't made anymore I wonder what happened to the moulds cheers yamp

the workboats have less rocker from nose to tail and require less hp to plane

Hi, I have had my boat for 11 years now.It rides better than a glass or allie boat (had both in past). I although it has low sides I have never had water over the sides, even in a beam sea. Actually the most frightening thing is the wakes the floating palaces put up at high speed in Moreton Bay at the mouth of the Coomera River. Do get spray over you at the helm.

The deck is clear other than two thwarts and two hatches in the bows. Find that handy for fishing. The gunwales are wide and easy to sit on. As the boat gets used socially to get to Wavebreak and the Pin for my wife and I and friends we find the layout great. Fit lots of gear like deckchairs, waveskis, windsurfers etc. My sons use it on the Coomera River for wakeboarding as well as just having fun around the bay. It's been to Tipplers many times in the past.

The best thing about the plastic is that it is just the same as the day we bought it. Few coral scratches from PNG reefs but in Moreton Bay we run it up the beaches, bang it against pontoons and generally don't have to worry about damage to the hull.

Today I was out fishing the Seaway wall and around Wavebreak. Used about 18 litres of petrol launching at Paradise Point. The Big Foot 60 hp works well on this type of boat and whenever I think of buying something different I think of what it used to cost me to run the other boats I have had and how little maintenance is required on a plastic boat. Just hose it off-deck is flush, flush the motor and rinse the trailer. No wood, gel coat, nooks and crannies and no sinkers bouncing around under the deck (my old tinny). No rotting wood, crazed gel coat, bottom repairs.

Most of all the longboats are just fun. Coming back today full throttle and skipping over the north wind waves was exhilarating. 6 metres is just long enough in the Moreton Bay chop. Although I have island hopped in PNG on Yammies and Pangas the sea here seems to be lot rougher offshore and we limit ourselves to the Bay. No matter what longboat you buy you'll enjoy it.

I have a Dolphin flexihull (6.2 M plastic long boat) and what impresses me is the fuel economy and the ease of getting onto the plane even when fully loaded. I have a 70HP 4 stroke Suzuki on it and it only needs half throttle to get on the plane whereas my friends 6m Polycraft with 140HP 4 stroke Suzuki on it needs full throttle to get onto the plane with the same load.

Also the lightness makes it easy on the tow vehicle and they are very strong as stated above.

Hi guys and Girls,
I have a 28ft. longboat built by Tronqued boats in the Philippines. I use it offshore, and usually go on my own. I have had it for two years and can't believe how happy I am with it.I am 69 years of age and have a lot of boating under my belt. I believe a boat is a tool, and you have to sort out which tool is suitable for your purpose, and the conditions under which you are using it. I researched the "Panga", and "Andros' and was very keen, but the problems of shipping were insurmountable.
Saw an earlier version of my boat at the Manila Yacht Club, Contacted the builder, and did most of the arrangements over the internet. Shipped on a flatbed container to the runaway bay Marina. In by travel lift, turn the key, drive home.
What most impressed me was the willingness of the builder to take on board my requirements and custom build the fitout accordingly.
If anyone is interested in pictures of this boat, contact me by email ddg38@bigpond.net.au.

Sorry I don't know how to send pictures on this site. I live at Hollywell so anyone who wants to have a look, please feel free, after contacting me.
