Beach fish last weekend

Went camping up North Shore this weekend, had the best Taylor fishing in years with a PB for me at 3.2kg:)
We fished the incoming tide most days and found the Taylor in close to the beach. All our fish were caught from the beach at night and very early morning before sunrise. Between 3 of us we caught 40+ Taylor all varying from 1-3kg and some good dart as well. Only kept what we would eat for dinner the rest were put back.
2 good flat head 68-75cm and a small Jew 73cm my first Jew from the beach;D. My mate had never caught a fish from the surf before this trip, but he is now hooked on beach fishing. All the fish were caught on Mac tuna baits and light spinning outfits. Will post some pics once I get them from my mate.

Sounds like a couple of good sessions up there, certainly pays to be in the right place at the right time. Unfortunately sessions like yours seem few and far between on this stretch of beach nowadays particularly when you take into account the amount of people that try to fish this area and often go home empty handed. Sounds like you did very well.

I love the North Shore, beautiful stretch of beach and when the fishing is good, well, it's pretty much a perfect spot to get away to for any length of time

Have to agree goat boy, I have been up that way before and not seen a fish all weekend, still a great beach to camp on.

Over the last few weeks catches have been steadily improving along Teewah Beach - everybody seems to be getting a feed atm. Tailor, dart, whiting, bream, tarwhine and a lot of flathead are being caught. Have never seen so many flathead being caught in fact, but bag limits are being exceeded and I've seen a number of undersized tailor and dart being kept.

I've been cruising the beach looking for schools of tailor and finding a few to spin slugs through. Humpbacks and dolphins are close to shore and bait schools are being harrassed all along the beach. Big change from the winter period when absolutely nothing was happening.

No coincidence that this should occur once netting stopped for the season - happens every year.

so on a side note, has the algae not bloomed with the warmer weather yet or is it blooming but still fishable?
I remember being up there in Oct about 3 or 4 years ago and pretty much the whole stretch was chockers with the stuff..

Goatboy - the surf between a bit north of the 3rd cut to the river mouth is blooming as we speak with anaulus australis, but north of that point is pretty clean. This can be attributed to nutrient levels close to the river mouth being sufficient for a bloom to occur without high temps. But it will only take a decent drop of rain and/or a few warm days over 28 degrees and I am expecting the whole beach (surf) and to Sandy Cape to bloom. Been fortunate so far that we haven't had any high temps. I am surprised (pleasantly) that the water is largely still clean given an algal presence through winter and blooms in previous years having commenced in September.
