Just another incident to support the use of barbless hooks on lutes.

They might give the fish or bird a better chance to throw the hook.
It also helps a bit getting them out of your skin..........
I recently put new trebles on a 200mm mackeral lure and hung it in the shed, a few days later I managed to get it embedded in my shoulder, I managed to get it out with the long nose pliers.
Skin is so tough......

We had a large seabird (albatross ? white/brown) take a pilchard on a float line a few weeks ago. Luckily the hooks didnt get a hold and he dropped it when he realised it was attached to a line. We didnt have barbless hooks and I hate to think of what could of happened. Another good argument for barbless hooks.

barbless hooks are the only way to go for barra or estuary lure fishers because everything that does get hooked can be released easily including birds, undersize fish and humans
A barra about 800 ripped a rear treble straight into my left hand last Friday and they hooks just slid out fairly quickly if the hooks were barbed it would have been a little bit average
I with all the good fishers I fish with have a rule on our boats lures don't go onto the rod before the barbs come off and if anyone thinks that barbed hooks have a better catch rate over barbless they don't do much luring
this year alone having landed well into the high hundreds of barras ranging from 450mm to metre plus with almost no fish dropped because the hooks came out except maybe one or two due to human error

cheers
