Hi all, i was just wondering i'm looking to buy a overhead rod and reel combo, but im not entirely sure what size though, my dad reckons a 6'6 rod is too long and that he reckons nothing more than a 15kg rod. The combo will mainly be used off jettys and wharves and the occasional boat trip. I was just wondering if anyone can help me decide.
All help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Check out the wilson Live fibre range mate i have heaps of them and treat them ruff as guts and they never let me down . I wouldnt be worried about 6'6 being to long i only ever use the 7"ft 8-15kg range

What sort of price range for the combo?
now i dont know your target species but if casting a boat overhead reel is something you're not used then, for your purpose of baiting off jettys and wharves and occaisonal boat trip for light to medium fishing, i personally would go with a medium sized threadline / eggbeater with a bait runner function to keep things simple. Just my opinion, you may be a whizz on the overhead, i just find threadlines are easier and can provide a fair bit of drag these days and do anything a overhead reel can in the light to medium range. also match it to the right rod and you have a great medium soft plastics outfit too.
