I was fishing the 4 beacons the other day, anchored with a couple livies out and tuna were busting up everywhere coming in very close to the boat. Couldnt get any interested enough to take a lure, tried 40gm which seemed to spook them as it hit the water, dropped to 20gm then 15gm but none interested. So i changed to a 5inch jerk shad slowed the retrieve a little and had a couple follow it back to the boat but no attempt at taking it. Had a livey on the bottom and another under a balloon and werent interested in either of those either. They were around the boat for about 4 hours for nothing. I was using 12lb mono with 15lb flurocarbon leader. Any advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks

I have had days when the Mac Tuna are feeding on those little transparent baitfish and almost impossible to hook. I go down to 10gm or even 7gm in either Searocks or Gillies Baitfish in white on 10lb leader. Unfortunatly it doesn't always work but sometimes you can crack the system and have a ball on those little speedsters

This is the size of bait there usually feeding on, so the old saying of match the hatch
will often work, but then again some days they wont take anything.

Some days they will only hit Berkely Powerbait minnows in Casper Clear 3". Even then sometimes you need to prune them down to 2" long to get action.
Other times it is a complete frustration scene and occasionally they eat anything you put in the water.
When they are skittish they are almost impossible.

cutting the plastic never crossed my mind, but i have heard of boiling the plastics to soften them for more action though
thanks for the advice

one thing that used to sometimes work also is a high speed reel wound flat out,i remember some days that nothing other than a high speed reel wound like hell will be the only thing they want
