With the flatty classic approaching the decision was made to get serious and no amount of rain or wind was to get in my way. After dragging my youngest out of bed at 4:45 am and driving down the coast and spending three hours cold and wet for nothing maybe in hind sight I should have listened to his protests.
Sunday was a new day and flathead were not to be talked about. We scooted over to mud at about 2:30 pm. Conditions weren't the best but we pressed on. The boys had wanted to jig some bait so after setting them up I put on a 5 inch gulp minnow and third cast I was on. I called it for a big snap and in my mind I was thinking this will make up for yesterday and just as I was feeling quite content it spat it. Me and my big thoughts! well the boys had a ball with the bait jigs catching regularly, squire, trumpeter, pike and trevally - three at once. At least they were having fun. Two more hours and nought for dad.
At work today and the older brother rings with another one of his fishing feelings yeah what the hell, met him down the coast at 9:30am and straight up to Jumpinpin. Had to be quick as tide was changing quickly. Second cast and I pull up a 50cm flattie. Few more and a couple of bite offs, current too strong so we go shallow. First cast in 20cm of water, my brother twitches it off the sand bank and bang, this thing has been taken by a croc. 10 minutes later and we boat an 83cm flattie. Even though he caught it I netted it so I'm claiming part of it. Had to get going and we pull in a nice GT. Sorry about the quality of photos took them on my phone and we were both dentist that day so we couldn't show our faces on camera.
Funny how one decent fish can make up for some ordinary fishing.

I would have mistaken that monster for a Croc anyday. Well done. Sometimes its the fishing trips you don't plan that end up getting the best results.

looks like a croc to me....in pic 1 you can clearly see it sneaking up on that flathead.
