With the weather being the way it is. I decided too take a drive down the Tweed for a look around town. I ended up at an Antique museum that's chock full of old time chandlery.
While I was there I stumbled across an Antique Deep Sea fishing winch. Beauty I thought. As it was I've been in the market for a blue water winch anyway.
The reel in question was an Alvey Reef Master. Now that I've come across this old timer for a mere $45, after some haggling and some TLC with a couple of modern revamps. I will have myself a heavy duty bottom bashing unit.
Could anyone help me with the heritage of this old time reel? The only details I can give is that there is an old NZ Tiki painted on the side of the reel. Any history would be interesting too Know!
After the Revamp is complete I'll post updates.
When you look at the modern winches and compare them to yesteryear nothing much has changed. As this old unit runs smooth and true.
cheers Viper.
