Hey Ausfishers,
Just wanting to know if anyone has any news on the new 2011/12 Shimano Chronarch??
I believe they are the "E" series.
What are like compared to the older "D" series??:-?
I hope that I have the model specs right.....I'm in the market for a new one and want to know what the new series is like compared to the older one.
I currently own a curado E7 which I am very happy with....do I just get another curado??:-?
HELP!!!
Jason.
The new model is a step back IMO & is now even closer to the Curado due to its graphite side plates -
I'm still looking for what advantages you might get with the Chronarch ....... better spool maybe :-? ...... same bearing count but the chronarchs are shielded SS bearings :-?.
honestly though ... buy another Curado out of the States for $150ish & be done with it!

The new Chronarch is effectively the same as the old Curado 200E. The new Curado is a downgraded version of the old Curado with fewer bearings. Shimano had to cheapen their line of reels for the US market because of the state of the US economy...

Thanks Chris,
This was my first thought looking through the specs. It looks as though Shimano are really making their reels cheaper to suit the market trends.
I saw your thread regarding the quality of shimano gear....makes for very interesting reading.
I was hoping that you would reply to this to give me a clearer vision.
I am very happy with my current curado....looks as though the sensible option is to grab another....maybe the E5 this time.
thanks, Jason.

No worries Jason
The Chronarch is just another example of what I was saying about Shimanos downgrading = If I was a Shimano fan , I would be disappointed with their offerings ... particularly knowing just how good the Chronarchs were
Chris
Have a look around for the Scorpion dc......JDM upmarket Curado with the DC......They should be a good thing.

From what I hear the new model Curado will no longer be made in Japan. Malaysian made reels seem ok but if it makes a difference to you get in quick.

wow, some deja vu here. remember when Simano went from the Triton mark 1 to that first Calcutta 700.OK, stepping back a bit here.
There are a lot of older reels that are worth treasuring.Pre 1990 ABU reels come to mind.
