Hi all,
just looking for any ideas on buying a new rod for around 100 bucks to match a sol 3000 using 20-30lb braid casting lures for barra. This is my number 3 outfit and does not get used that often and I want to replace the rod but not go over board as it will not be used that often maybe just by mates who go fishing with me. I know there are a a lot of choices any thoughts from anyone out there who has used a rod that may suit this purpose?
Cheers
Jase

Hi Jason,
There is so much on offer these days it is hard to make a choice. Although i have not used one i have looked at the range or Berkley drop shots and their Tournament pro range; both are competitively priced and have models suitable for your application. Tacklewarehouse are running specials at the moment. $129 for a rod that has sic guides with free delivery can not be all that bad and if you really want to economise the dropshot range are $89 plus delivery. Purchase a few lures to the cheaper option and get free delivery as well. I would be looking at one of these although doubtful you will see the full range on Heron Island.

Have a look at the shimano raiders about $120, hard to fault for the money, I have a lighter model and it has caught some really good fish it's my second choice behind my loomis

Hey mate,
I'm with Blythy, check out the Shimano Raiders for the price point. They have a barra spin model, only thing you might not like is that they're 2 piece. I have one with a 3000 luvias on it, works well.
Cheers,
Kewy

Cheers Blythy and Kewy,
2 piece is fine cause it fits in my car easily so that's no problem. I'll have to have a look. I know there are many options but it is good to get some feedback from people who have used them.
Thanks
Jase

The ugly sicks are always a good option. You'll be able to pick one up for less than a 100 bucks so are good value.

Hi Jase,
I own a ATC hardstick Spinner bait made by Wilson (7ft ish and 6-9 Kg from memory) and I have been very happy with it and at around $120.00 it should fit into your budget.
I have used it at Awoonga and for light reef work and really enjoy using it (a very versatile outfit). Have fun looking for new stuff :)
Cheers

Have a look at the Pflueger Trion's, they're pretty good value for money, usually around the 129 but come down to 99 when the specials are on.
