Morning All,
After some advise . Have just started fishing the Pine River these last 3 weekends . Resullts have been far from ideal . The first thing that I have noticed is the amount of weed in the system . I have used both placcies and fresh prawns/ squid . I fish very light and as such like to use the smallest weight posssible . Should mention that I am boat based , put her in at Deepwater Bend . Would anyone have any advise to increase my catch results , NOT after any spots / marks / locations just any general info . I have mainly been hitting the fresh the last 10 years , and I seem to be out of practice in the salt .
Oh yeah , just after the usual species , Flatties , Bream etc.
Thanks for any help offered,
Shawn:-?:-?:-?

Fish well upstream until the weed passes is what I am doing, same goes for the Cab River and the Passage. The higher you go the less weed and the more the fish will feed. I think your techniques will be fine, just the weed really annoys the fish and pushes most away.

The reports we see indicate that live prawns and live mullet/herring are the go.

The green slime weed.
Never caught a fish in that.
I have caught fish in brown weed, but the green slime, nope.

Listen to the boys here mate and fish up stream, the boom times have gone very quiet since the weed has arrived, so be patient and they will return again real soon. You will find some decent flatties upstream, as for the bream, fish very light, 1/16 along the rock walls or mangrove overhangs. Live bait will still score you a flattie or tailor.
Fish braid with long light leaders for bait and shorter leaders for plastics.
If you put in at Deep water bend then you need to head straight up stream past the bridges and beyond, explore and have fun!

Be aware of the rocks at the mouth of Hays Inlet at low tide mentioned above. I know from personel experience a few times actually. Check google/near map for area. The fact that there are rocks here makes it a good spot as bait tends to congregate more. Dont go too light in your jig head if your chasing flatties. you still want to be able to cast and in turn fish a half decent distance.

There are still plenty of Flatties at the bridges, had most success on the run out tide. Fish down stream a bit and cast back into the runout as they lay waiting pointing upstream for bait. Have caught them around most of the pylons. There are some big Duskies haning in there and plenty of smaller males around them. i caught the one on the photo today 17 Aug you can see exactly where i am!! 65 cm and a few kilos. they dont eat the best that size so we let her go so she can still spawn.70519

Thanks Bud ,
Was out there again yesterday . Bloody river was like Pitt Street . Got checked out by Boating and Fisheries ( good to see them on the water );););D . Had a great day ,only gripe is , why the bloody hell do idiots insist on putting their pots in the middle of the channel with a 600ML plastic coke bottle as a float:(:-X:( . As I said a great day , weed still bit of a pain , got bricked by Christ knows what ( Jack ? ):-?:-? , should be back out there on Saturday .

Maybe a fat Estuary Cod is what did you though you can get the occasional school jewie run through, haven't fished the pine in a while so not sure about the weed situation but I would be looking at the dohles rocks boat ramp directly across at the mouth inlet I have scored a few nice flathead. As for idiots with pots, god only knows. If your close enough you can always hit the brisbane river for a fish.

Funny you should say that Mossy , was at the Bruce Highway bridges yesterday and had a good 15 minute encounter with an undersize Jew . Bastard went like a freight train.

Hahahaha yeah they run hard and its not something that I think is a good chance of a hook up until she takes off. I actually went out yesterday and fished the pine with the winds abit heavy for the brissy river and found a few bream in the upper reaches on the incoming tide, heaps of snot weed around the mouth and dohles rocks ramp my crab pots were filled with the stuff. Shoot up until you hit the yellow x marker. (Don't actually hit it though hehe.) We had a few nice bream and a few follow and some close calls on the plastics just missing the hook up. They all went down to the gulps and found success in variations of green and also had luck with the smelt colour minnows. Plenty of woodwork and shadow over hangs to throw a plastic up in the strike zone, wasn't overly aggressive with the action and found most attacking on a slow roll of the reel. tight lines.

Spent yesterday out there . Bloody nice day . Mixed bag of fish . Brought two nice ( approx 60 cm ) lizards to the side , however not having a net ( some f@@kwit did not put it in the rod holder properly , note to self , you are a f@@kwit:-[:-[:-[ ) could not land them . Most unusual catch which was according to my fish ID charts a 6 inch Moses Snapper . Also realised how unfit and weak I am after trying to lift my sodden 45 Kilo Lab back in the boat when she thought it would be a good idea to try to get the escaping lizard for me .::)::)
