Mate, I was there 24 July to 1 August. Patchy would be a good word, biggest went 5lb and smallest went about 38cm (sorry to mix measures but I weigh good fish and measure the not so good). Individually I caught 13 tailor on an outer sand bank between about 3 and 5 lb, wade through up to your chest and fish up to your waist.
Most other blokes on the beach caught bugger all. Did not catch a single bream this trip, last year was the best bream year over there I can remember, managed I think about 5 tarwhine though from memory - nothing special in there either.
Given the fact there are still no pippis on the beach I reckon the whole fish ecosystem (including the tailor) still has a long way to recover from the oil spill. We have also taken salted then frozen pippis caught elsewhere and converted them to the six spot dart pretty effectively the last two years.
Hope this helps.
Craig
Bythe way plenty of worms about if you know how to catch them.

worst season for any species over there i've seen ever, i brained the tailor last weekend but everything north of middle road isnt worth the effort i rode my motorised bike up with some mates and we only got decent fish on the southern end, i also havent seen a pipi in over a year
