Considering splurging some tax money on a new rod. I had a look at the nitro vapours bit stiff for my liking. Wanted to have a look at a G loomis but couldnt see any in the shop.. Anything else I should look at for the price? Going to go look at a few other rods as well in the cheaper bracket and see if I can work out a good deal. patriarch xtr rods, T curves etc....

The samurai 201 felt pretty good in the hand with a pretty soft tip. Does anyone use these rods? Most the time I use plastics mostly 1/8 to a 1/16th head but sometimes throw lighter and some times throw a 1/4 ( very rarely the bigger weight though ). I a throw the odd hard body and do a bit of surface work in summer. So chasing something that will be a good all rounder.

I know the 201 is a plastics rod but was wanting to know how it went for hards and surface lures. They promise me a really good deal on this rod so thats why i looked into it a bit more.

I will be chasing bream, flattys trevs etc on this rod mostly 4lb-6lb leader with a 4lb braid. Reel will be a 2000 bluvias.

I had the same predicament 12 months ago. Decided against the 201 as it is very limited in its uses.
I bought a G.Loomis IMX DSR8200s instead. Can throw any thing as light as 1/40th and as heavy as 1/6. (havent tried quarter yet)
Both rods will be to soft in the tip to throw sammy 65 bassday sugapen megabass dog-x jr etc etc etc.

I use it mainly with a 1/16th head and go from there. Can cast Smith camions quite well as they come in around 2.4g. I can also get around 30m when throwing CX40HS ecogears and Jackall chubbies.
Whislt the loomis hast got the bling factor of a Samurai, it is a much better blank.
I've got a tweaked 2500Ci4 Stradic on it with 6lb Super PE and reguarly use 2lb-8lb leaders but usually 2lb and 4lb.

My top water rod is a DSR820s in the GL2. great value at around $250-300.

Is the Gary howard one with the northfolk blank?? If it is I liked it when I was looking at it in the shop a few weeks ago. I also like the one he built on the cts blank with the comfort palm rest reel seat.

It had camo grips the rod was in a matte finish if that helps.
