Left clontarf 6am, very slight chop, but all good.
Headed of to n/e end mud to first try for some snaps.
Only got few undersize squire.
Up anchor then off to east side, where there were at least 12 boats.
Thought, this looks good, but after couple hrs, not a fish.
Sat there and thought what's the next plan of attack.
Thought I would take run over to the rous. Never fished there before. Checked map, put into gps on off we went. Still little choppy but all good.
In about 10 mins came across and bunch of at least 12 boats and thought that it must have Ben Harrie atkin reef.
Decided not to stop and went further only to see about 25 boats and knew that this must have been the rous.
Soon as we dropped first bait, whiting started coming in h boat.
Lots of weed, which was bit annoying but the size were really big.
We fished all through the rouse and gave it away at 1.30, with a tally of 80 big whiting.
Bay was flat on run home until shipping channel, when chop started.
Took 40mins to get back from rouse to clontarf, which I thought was a good run.
The 50 4s yammy ran like a charm.
Cleaned and filleted all fis at ramp and will soon be sitting down to some fresh fillets in beer batter, chips and salad. Yummieee.

Cheers

Hey Greg,

Glad to see you finally got back onto the whiting - I've followed your recent frustrations.

Thanks for the post, and all the previous ones. It's helpful to know when it's all going to sh1t as well as when the bite is on.

Cheers,

Steve

Rosco.
The paternoster rig was best for weed, and the bottom hook on a long trace around12/18 inches, that seemed to keep bait away bit better from the weed that was Getting balled up on the sinker.
Mate was using a running sinker with trace of around 5/6 feet..
Squid strips did the job. And was getting up to 5 fish per bait.
I found today that top hook caught few more than normal and again I had trace of around 12/18 inches.
These tiller steers gives the old shoulders bit workout, but the fresh fresh tonight will make up for it.
Hope there still there on weekend.

Cheers
Greg

I was one of those 12 boats at mud this morning. Came home empty handed but it was a great day to be out on the bay. A perfect morning for boating.

Good call to go after the whiting. I will have to check out Rous one day also.

Good to hear you got a nice feed there. What was the biggest size? are these winter whiting?

Fishawn.
Didn't measure. I think most would have been around 28-30 , nice and fat. Some I think were even bigger. All winter whiting. Biggest winters I have seen.
A mate has been getting some out front shorncliffe, but size doesn't even come close to these.

Well Done Greg - Glad you got on to them again. Like many I've been following your hunt for them.
Pity some of us don't have a big enough boat to get us out there - Great stuff mate
