Finally managed to get back up to Townsville to do some work on my house after the cyclone at the start of the year, after a couple of days of back breaking work with the help of some good mates, I decided that it was time to go down and flick some lures. I took my trusty 2-4kg loomis and 2500 stella down to the fresh and threw some 4” jigging grubs about on 1/8th 2/0 heads. It didn’t take long before the stella was singing my favourite song, and the 8lb line was tight on a good fish, after a couple of horrific runs, a few lazzy jumps, and some dodging lily pads, I managed to drag a 85cm barra up onto the grass, I would hate to fight this girl in summer i think that the tables would be turned. Managed a couple more over the next hour and a half until we ran out of light, I can’t believe how thick they are for this time of year, I saw at least a dozen along the strand. All fish were released for next time.

I had lined a trip up to the reef for Saturday but with the weather turning foul we stayed in close chasing macs who refused to play the game, the wind died down in the arvo so shot out to one of the in shore reefs for not much exciting, managed to blood the new rod (350g live fibre venom with a saragosa 14000), but still need to find a fish to put it through its paces. Sunday saw us down the creek for a relaxing day, a few beers, and some quality bream It would have been great if the weather had played the game, but was great to catch up with a few mates.
Happy fishing,
Blythy

Thats some great fishing. Must have been a lot of fun with that light flick stick. Loomis and stella are a good combination.
