Thats the petrol engine? Why buy a reco...unless it's insurance ring a wreckers and see whats on their shelf...many will also fit it,fitting is a frightfully simple job...might come in at around 2k then. Still i dunno the toyotas so at best so just a thought.
Ring around a few toyota dealers. I remember back when I had my 80 series 1fz, they were advertising crate long motors for about $7k. That was early 2000's.

have rung wreckers they still want round the 3000mark , at least it will be new internally , have tossed up the idea of new colorado but cant bring myself to ditch the used and abused cruiser as it fits 8ppl
Mate just out of intrest how many K's did it clock up on this engine? A few mates have them one has 420,000 on it now and seems to be still reliable....it's his daily drive anyway.........i have the UZJ V8 in mine.
cheers Dan

Before you consider on a Chev diesel do a bit of research as they have a bit of a problem with cracked heads and blown head gaskets

Ok worth a try, thats a fair bit for a second hand petrol engine, can one import these motors? trouble is buying a new car now means you have a cruiser without a heart, no good economic (tight arse) way out it seems.
best of luck in your search.

Mate, Those engines are a dime a dozen. Only got $1000 for mine complete from the wreckers. I will ring a mate and try to get 1 for you. Spending that kind of money is rediculous. And also the chevy diesels are total crap unless its the duramax.

Here... Give Steve a call. He's on the sunny coast and does engine transplants. Should have a 4.5 laying around. If not. He will give you a qoute on a ls1 conversion :).

If it were me I would def be looking for a good second hand engine. Will be money lost getting a new engine.
Sandgate Wreckers use to offer good warranty on 2nd hand engines.

Did you ask Steve??? I had the 5.7 in my poootrol. 320 bhp and same eco as diesel. I wouldnt get anyone other than Steve to do it though. Most are just hacks.
Here is the duramax he wired up. 12.2 qauters and 10 litre per 100k's

yeah I tried ringing him on Monday morning but no answer so left a message. does he do these as hobby or business?

Business. Drive in - drive out. Mine was 1 of the first in aus (such a headache with the wirring). He is an auto electrician who specialises in the engine conversions. Can unlock and reprogram the factory computer (start and run better etc etc.) A few people run the duramax now and fly him down to where ever they are to wire it up. But these days LS1 conversions are easy and cheap as. Im sure he would have a 4.5 laying around though. Customers come in and get the conversion and can get anything for their old engine.

First question Auto or manual? Auto wont work as it wont change properly. Youll need the holden auto. If manual it will hold the holden engine just fine (Get a good clutch). The 6 litre is different to the 5.7. The 5.7 has cable throttle and the 6.0 has a go pedal (electronically controlled). People say there are sluggish because there is a gap between when you stop and when it goes. The other problem that I think they hav solved now is bump throttle. When going over bumpy ground the throttle is very sensative and starts to jerk the car. Few other bits an peaces. Rear drop sump and pick ups. Custom or prefab block hugger extractors. Twin shrouded thermals. But like I said. Done to death now and easy as.

got my quote today ....it was around the 24k mark ... so old mates next line of thought was a new toyota engine as standard coupled up with a sprintex supercharger......back to the spinning head ...lololol

ha ha ha, who was that qoute from? Thats total B/S. Mine cost 25k and took me 6 months to do years ago. Now you can get it done from around 13 - 16k. But like I have said. Go with the 5.7 mate as its cheaper. You wont be happy with a supercharged 4.5. Ive had 1 of those too.
Wait until monday and call Steve.

that was from the mob near the shit plant at maroochy, i will ring steve back on monday im currently looking at a 1991f350 4x4 with a b series cummins in it with a huge intercooled turbo donk with 15000ks on full reco, so as you can see im all over the place with the decisions lololol, if that goes through i will just pull down the cruiser when time allows and hopefully a happy ending for my wallet ..

Once again, if its not a duramax lbz DONT BOTHER! There are not many people or places around who do the duramax with allison auto. The 6.5 chev diesels are total buckets of crap! 25k for little improvement. You name 1 person who is genuinely happy with this conversion. Most say they are to swallow their pride and justify the money they have spent. After about a year they admit thats its a total waste of time and money.
Engine stats
6.5 6.6 duramax (2007 on)
180hp @ 3400rpm 300 bhp (220 kW) @ 3100rpm
440 lb-ft @ 1800rpm 520 lb·ft (705 N·m) @1800 rpm
The stats dont even give the true reading. The duramax is twice as powerful and lively and even gives better eco.

Might be a bit late but I am pulling the 1FZ our of my 105 series cruiser in the next month or so, has sprintex supercharger, intercooler, injected gas, shift kit in the auto the full box and dice.
Runs great - 148kms just putting in a 1HD with a few tricks for something different....
Agree the Duramax is a brilliant thing - looked seriously at it but will likely be in the next rig.

Told you... But you should have let me know mate. Im not sure about the L96's. But the ls1 crate motors are different from the aussie gen 3's. The crate motors have less power. And I could have got you a hsv 6 litre and auto, comp and all running gear for 5K. Less than 100k on the clock.
Is steve doing it?
Ps. You should clear 350 if done right and enough air. And take me for a spin! Im sure we cant miss you on fraser. PPS When I used to tell people at work what engine I was running. They used to ask me if I get bogged much... LOL W@nkers welcome to the club mate.
