Penn Torque review

I only own 1 Penn spinner, my 6500ss, but if I needed another, this would be it. Nice!

Thanks for posting that link. Very thorough, as always. Surprising that Penn claims 50lbs of drag, when they obviously never tested the reel to anything like that (the rotor scraped the spool at 29lbs) - did they just take a guess? Of course, that's still more drag than many people would ever use.

To be fair, Alan Hawk also noted in another review, that the Saltiga 6500Z's rotor touched the spool and was bent permanently (by about 2mm) at 20kgs of drag, which is less than the maximum drag Daiwa claim (30kg). Obviously, those who use 20kg of drag on Saltiga Z's just haven't noticed that the rotor on their $1000 reel is permanently bent.

Anyway, the Penn Torque looks like a great reel. I know I wouldn't lay my Stella SW down on the sand and then wash the sand out in the white water (like Alan Hawk did with the Torque) and expect it to still run smoothly...

I agree Brent it seems like a bad miss, especially considering the amount of testing they did. Makes you wonder how good it could be if they did those changes he listed.

I love my spin reels but I think for very high drag applications, overheads are more suited, where nothing bends except the rod.
