This is an observation only... If it was just stuck to the top of the page (where it should be) that would be fine, however as it isn't most people will find it obtrusive and annoying in extreme (as I do). Most people these days will have multiple tabs (of the same site) open at any one time (with only the topics or areas of the site they want to look at at that time), so the need to be accessing the areas of the site that the banner leads to are a complete waste of time and bandwidth except from the main page.
I had thought these type of thing were left in the last decade.... and in actual fact is the reason why I rarely look at sites that use these sorts of things to be "helpful".
Regards,
Dave.

Sadly it just goes to prove you can't please everyone, no matter how hard you work.
The drop downs have been a part of the site that has been liked by many long term members, and when they were not working on the new template quite a few of them were missing them. As you can see by the following post http://ausfish.com.au/vforum/showthread.php?176569-Why-don-t-my-drop-downs-work as well as the many PM's I received.

Steve didn't mean to piss you off, and the computer whiz that i am i didn't even realise that it was called a drop down bar. It's just when you scroll to bottom of page then go up the bar floats to the top and it makes me feel queezy, hard to explain. Plays tricks with your eyes. Your sort of dammed if you do, and dammed if you don't, give what you feel is constuctive criticism. I for one are grateful for the upgrades, but i'm old school and like what i know, and for me that was the old format...sorry;)

No problem. It does "float" a lot more than the old one and am trying to make it more like the old one. The old JavaScript that I used to write the old one causes too many conflicts with the new way the forums are written. Will see how it pans out.
As you say, dammed if I do, dammed if I don't"
