Hey Fishinwahbee

It took a little bit to get used to the new layout but now that i have, i find it more user friendly than the previous version. Can you tell us what u dont like about it?

Cheers

Ah - change is often hard for people to accept. Usually, we all get used to change eventually though.

Personally, I remain very grateful to the website owner, Steve, for continuing to put in his own money to run the website and indeed, to continually seek improvements in it for the benefit of members. :)

Goodonya, Steve ....and Mrs Ausfish also, who suffers some of the family budget being spent in upgrading the forums. I am sure that such improvements cost more than small change.

Ah - there's that word, "change," again. :D

I don't like it either. I thought it would grow on me but it hasn't. There isn't one particular thing its the whole layout.

I would love to see the original format back thats for sure.

i think its great, love the new colour scheme makes it nice and bright, photos are better to view, easier to access different parts of the forum, added blogs, although not thrilled about having jetski classifieds in the for sale section:-X:-X:-X

I'm happy with it, nice little facebook/youtube features added (like and dislike options). Seems to be very subtle changes still going on with it though, the layout keeps changing a bit from one day to the next

Yeah, give it a couple of weeks and see how you are with it then fishinwahbee, it seems to be getting tweaked daily.
Still the best of it's kind for me though, by a long way.

Only think I really preferred about the old site was the darker backround. Easier on the eye when using a 27" monitor :P All this white is a bit glarey!

yeah I think its good.....a change is as good as a holiday and its good that Ausfish can separate its forum from others ie in style and format.

Im not sure if that is you in your avatar fishinwahbee but if it is my young friend there is one thing in life that you will learn as your journey continues and that is that change is as certain as death and taxes, and it will affect diferent people in different ways. Personaly im slowly getting used to the new Ausfish but others have said it all takes time.

changes are always good...life gets boring otherwise, but I don't like all the ads
I understand the need for revenue, but I don't think the ads should be in peoples post
looks like someone is advertising something...maybe keep the ads out of peoples posts

I'm used to it now so not really any differance to me. Change is always a threat. Sit back and relax and before you know it you will hardly remember the old setup.

The search feature seems to be hopeless. In some cases it brings up posts from 2004/2006 with one mention of a word in about 8 pages of a post and won't find the word in the title of a thread from very recent posts. Maybe i'm doing something wrong in my searches??

Use google, its better than the forum search. just add site:ausfish.com.au to the end of your search query and it will restrict all responses to this site!

Colours are a bit out there... but it will grow on me I think.

I like being able to see threads that I have replied to.

It was once said, A change is as good as a Holiday.
You change your cars, you change your boats, you change your houses, jobs, jocks an socks :-[ even change your women :P.
I could be on the old fahion ways list, never been a lover of change, but change is exciting, something new and different and something to look foward to.

Sorry, you have lost me with this comment. Can you explain more, where are there ads in people's posts?

I think the orange makes it look a bit strange, it does not match the blue top section of the site? Other than that the layout is fine. :)

Search feature is a known issue. I tried to rebuild the search index at 2:00am but it crashed around 4.

Working on it again.

The white background is harsh on the eye IMHO, but I guess others will see it differently (pun intended). Seems a lot quicker, at least on Firefox.

Would it be possible to have a "view my posts" button?

Robbo76

Ausfish, I think rowanda is talking about your Adsense ads which sometimes appear in the first post of a new thread beside the text. They seem to be random, they appear and if you refresh they are gone.

That is odd, haven't seen that yet. Haven't set it that way either so must be a bug in the template. Will look into it, thanks

I'm with Charlie on this. There are things I don't like but its no big deal. I appreciate what Steve and Eileen do for us.

The intrinsic flavor of the site comes from the people who are on it which is the posts themselves. A new format doesn't change that.

Ausfish, have you checked that the html </a> is closed after the ad script?

I think the owner does a great job, but i like the old version.I don't like using arrows to centre things, for eg Indy's youtube clip in fishing reports, along with photos. The forum is to narrow and it's like reading something at 3/4 width as opposed to full width.

i'm not a fan of the new colour scheme but i do like the new features and the setup is ok. but i do feel ripped off. being a premium member and now having adverts all over the screen again.

That will be fixed as soon as we get the bugs out of thsi page, hopefully later today there will be a new layoput for premium members available.

Terrible...
The Blue banner sits over the top of the dropdown from the oranrge top one. Hence I can't access some of the dropdowns.

The old format was much better and faster to load.

Its got to the point where I get frustrated with the site and hence i am accessing it less.

Also the loading of attachements is much harder (confusing)

Is there any way to move the Moon phase banner to be horizontal? Say at the top of the page instead of vertically on the left, because underneath is wasted space.

New features are nice but I think the layout and overall appearance isnt as good as the old version. The one thing that really annoys me is the grainy, pixelated avatar pictures for each user. Is there a setting I can change to improve this?

The floating orange banner ( rather than fixed) with the "products hints etc etc" that doesn't scroll smoothly is very irritating. Would be OK if it just sat at the top of the page

Might be me on firefox or the way I scroll. Others probably like it and the access to it's drop downs but it isn't exactly hard to go to the top of the page to find anyway if it didn't float.

It is always hard to tell if the adds in the "signature footer or base of posts" like the amaroo massage one are members ones or a placed in add. Would be good if it had a title like "this members business" or something so we know it is not random and we are supporting a member.

Thanks

Check the settings on your browser, sounds like you are zoomed in. Depending on the browser you ate using you can zoom in or out by holding the CTRL key down and scrolling your mouse button.

I cannot remember if it was on the previous version of Ausfish but I have learnt to use it since the upgrade and think that it is a damn fine facility. I wish that the woodworking site that I also frequent would have the same feature.

Thank you, Mr Ausfish. :)

On my keyboard Charlie there is a home button that takes any page to the top. You may not have it with your apple I guess.

Ha! Well what about that. I have been using personal computers professionally and privately for about thirty years and forgot about that key.

That may be my first "seniors' moment". :wut:

The Apple keyboards have too many keys. I tend to ignore most of the extra ones except when I want to add a superscript or something tricky like that.

Ah well, I am just a slow talkin' country boy from Western Queensland. Cannot expect too much understanding of all of this whizz-bang technology, I suppose. ;D
