Hi Guys,

With the in-laws recently moving to BI and buying a takeaway shop, the opportunity to fish the island is becoming more frequent. Have done a couple of day trips and an overnighter. So far I've only had a couple of half arsed efforts off the beach down near the Bongaree Jetty but plan to take the tinny in future. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I gather the Bream fishing must be OK around the canals at Pacific Harbour? Also, where are the best spots to target Flatties? I'll be fishing the ABT Flattie comp in July so will probably do a couple of pre-fishes beyween now and then, saw a couple of boats just drifting and jigging the channel on the incoming tide, is that the go? I also have a yak so any tips in relation to yak fishing would be great too. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Cheers, Jamie.

The whole of the Passage holds flathead in good numbers. Back your skills to find fish, same with bream. The Passage has a host of good fishing areas, top hint...fish shallow water, as most people avoid it but on flood tides that's where the fish are, following the water up over the banks and bars and weedbeds.

The key to the Passage is fishing the bottom half of the tide and under. The area where fish can go on the flood is far too wide for a lazy angler (such as me and other flathead, bream, Jew, Jack, etc) to get too carried away. You will catch fish land based on the flood. If you have a boat go the bottom half of the tide.

Poppers early morning, glassy conditions, fished above the shallow weed beds on the flood / falling tide, and retrived back into a deeper channel or hole. Bream, Flathead and Whiting in that order. Best fished from the Yak.

You won't have more fun fishing, and it's very very productive.

Best Bream popper I got is a fluro pink Bubble Pop 45 with white feather tail. The Bubble pop 45's work the best out of these small poppers. Vary retrieve with short pauses up to 10 sec long.

Killer Killer Killer.

we do similar to captain incredible and like to fish the rising water off a low. we look for whiting on shallow banks as they start to get covered up, drop offs that have water flowing from shallow to deep and sometimes just drift the deeper gutters and channels to just take pot luck.
