Well after telling everyone i'm not going fishing with the crowds this easter i had a sudden change of mind after one little phone call from a Daly river resident.....It went pretty much like this...........GET HERE NOW........ok so off we went.

Got there late in the arvo after travelling the 260ks from home to be greeted with more than 35 cars and trailers at the crossing.......Lucky for us everyone pretty much was pulling out for the day so after a 1/2hr wait we're on the water and off......

First stop for us was clear creek roughly 75km down stream from the crossing and with the sun going down we shared the anchorage with 2 other boats......good colour change and bait everywhere....the barra were boofing like crazy on the sun set........perfect conditions not a breath of wind just perfect.

Unfortunatly to capitilize on this magnifcent evening i proberbly should not of had a gizzilion gold cans on the 1 1/2hr trip down the river........he he......bit pissed by now.......Any way we cast around for an hour or so with no takers what so ever, boofing everywhere and not one hook up for us or the other boats.......Hmmm go to sleep and wake up at the tide change in 4hrs......Good idea.

Had a kip and woke up to the place alive with barra going of smashing bait left right and center.......at any one time there would have been 2-3 boofs going off together.........Still no hookups......Fark whats going on?......bugger it back to sleep......and i tell ya what how can you sleep with that going on and a brand new Megabass rod and brand new DC calcutta right next to you........well i did.

Righto sunrise and were off down the river another 30ks to Palmerston island...theres 1/2dozen really good creeks down there that i love to fish......Anchor down cast into the creek mouth and..........BANG we're on......good fish good fish was the call........nice jump and yep a nice silver 80cm barra leaps clear of the water......wooo hooo yeah baby.........it's onnnn.

Caught bled and into the kill pit......next cast the Father in laws on.....yee ha...another one twin saltwater silver chrome barra jumps and shakes the lure free.........who cares they are here.........Cast after cast was pretty much fish after fish......the incoming tide was stacking the bait up at the creek mouth and it was just carnage for mullet.......withing the first ten mins we had our new legal bag limit on the Daly of 6 fish between 2 anglers......And thats fine by me.

For the next 2hrs we had some classic Daly run off fishing with a barra every cast if placed exactly wher it had to be.....Gold Halco Scorpions with the orange back was lure of the moment the were just getting nailed.......I had to replace the hooks twice on one lure from the amount of fish it landed.

Lost count at 35 fish but give it a rough estimate of 50 in total falling to us from one small creek.....Nicknamed from previouse years.......Effin good creek.

Off the water by 1 o'clock after a good 2 1/2hr run back up the river with a smile on our faces.......mission accomplished.;D

Having trouble attaching photos but will sort it out ASAP

jarrah jack..........hopefully your trip will pan out ok mate they look busy down there getting it up to scratch.

Sounds like a great fishing trip.

Pulled a few from Clear Creek last time I was at the Daly - unfortunately its a 3 day drive for me to get there, so I don't get there very often.

How did you go with the Mozzies, I haven't done an overnighter for fear of those little bugs.

Mate the Thermacell and a few XXXX Golds took care of the buggers.

Good trip mate.you certainly did better than me and my mate a couple of years back, got around six,the biggest went 750,all from "No Fish Creek"and all by trolling.
Ive never seen a worse river for rock bars just under the surface though.

Yeah "No Fish" is only about 1k from the 'S' bend upstream......so about 30k down river.

Yeah there are a lot of rockbars in the river.......theres a few that you don't see aswell.....I took a gearbox out down there about 10 years ago big time.

Rock bars!!!!!! Saw plenty of skegs being taken out just up from Browns Creek by tourists that didn't know the river well. That and the tidal wave that used to come up the river on the change of the tide, also catches many tourists by surprise.

By the way saw the biggest croc ever in the Territory in the area between Woolliana and Browns creek in the nice clear non tidal water of the Daly. Absolute monster it was and made me think about never to night fish in the Territory. Too many red eyes looking at you in the dark.

Miss the fishing action and good times in the Territory tough.

Thanks for the report Dan. Can't wait for your next one though. Those metery's had better watch out. Over 125 is asking a bit much but you never know, it could be the next one after the XXXX haze clears.;D Anything over 70 and I'll be happy over the next few days well maybe 70 over 70 would be better after yesterday.......................:D
