the youngfella had his 12th birthday this week so i let him pick what he wanted to do this weekend..so yesterday we went to the tinny and tackle show for the arvo then today we went for a fish...he wanted to fish mud for snapps::) ,i have to admit i hate mud lol but we left manly this morning around 5.15 and headed to mud on the way we dropped 4 pots at my spot x to see if any are there yet.we anchored away from the rest of the crowd in a nice little spot we threw out a mixture of baits pillies, mullet flesh and squid.we fished there till around 7.30 for no keepers...we got quiet a few squire and grassies but the biggest squire went the usual 34cm:( .we got a few grassies at 29cm but nothing bigger..i got dusted bout 3 times but i think it was a shark as we got a few fish biten in half when bringing them in...the next spot was on the inside of mud..sort of half way between mud and st helena fishing for flatties.we where using plastics i was usind 6lb braid and 10lb leader and the youngfella was using 10lb flourocarbin..on the first drift i got smashed for it for a good 5-10 minutes and got in a 64cm dusty model..i thought geez this is easy..the youngfella hooked his first flattie on a plastic it was 38cm sand flattie...we kept at it for a hr or so with the odd flattie caught but no more keepers...we headed to the rous for a squid fish was there for an hr got 4 squid and 1 ting...we caught the 4 squid within 15 minutes of getting there then went looking for the ting.they seemed to have gone from there..we headed back and collected the pots for 4 keepers sandies and 2 pots had wobbygong's in them so no crabs in those pots...all in all was a great weekend spent with my youngfella.
cheers rosco

Howdy Rosco, sounds like you and your son had a top day on the Bay.
We had no luck in the Rouse with the squid but we put in the hours and ended up with 24 good whiting.
Your right the whiting are very scarce.
