which soft plastics

i am just getting started fishing with soft plastics and was just after some tips to what plastics are best for certain species i am going away after easter to st georges basin and the main species i will be chasing are bream flathead and snapper just after some advice on what size, colour and type of plastics i am best off buying

For the snapper i've had good success with both 5 and 7 inch berkley gulp, jerk shads, with 3/0 and 5/0 hooks, led depending on depth and current. i've found in close lighter coloures work better =blue pepper neon, white pearl, pilchard, pink shine and out wider any of the brighter ones. nuclear chicken seems to be a favorite for alot of fishos including myself. i'm far from a expert but i think time of day, technique and equipment is more important then the colour, get them right if there is snapper around they'll eat most plastics.

this is based on my experience and what works for me consistantly

Flatties: 3" berkely grubs (wriggler tails) in Pumpkinseed and 2" Berkely Baby Shrimp in White.
Bream: have taken them on the grubs in greeny colours.

I havent gone for a snap recently but friends always had success with 5-7" berkely Shads in curry chicken or Nuclear chicken colours

As ranga7 said bout the lead, all depends but use the lightest possible

I fish consistently for Flathead with Berkely 3" minnows in either Nuclear Chicken, Pumpkin Seed, and the 2 or 3" Shrimp in Banana Prawn, they are deadly on everything, especially the 2".
I used to try all sorts but have found these for me are consistent catchers on a regular basis.
For Bream I know many people use the 2" Shrimp, and also the little grubs.

Hi Kanemel

Flathead: 4" berkley Gulp or Powerbait minniw in Pumikinseed, 10-14lb flurocarbon leader (berkley vanish) 6lb Fireline and 2-4kg road. For weight depending on depth and current i would start a 1/4oz if hitting the bottom to quick ECT 1/6 or 1/8 all with 1/0 - 2/0 hooks (berkley nitro jig heads).

Bream: 2" baby shrimp any colour with super light hidden weight jighead, skip them across shallows, also super light weight 3" pumkin seed minnos. 1-4kg rod 4lb vanish and 6lb Fireline.

Snapper: 5-7" berkley jerkshad, moldy cheese of Nuclear chicken my favourite, 20lb flurocarbon leader ( berkley vanish ), 4-8kg rod with 10/lb Fireline. Jig heads starting at 3/8 - 1oz best weight to start with would be 1/2oz.
