Have got a Tyrnos 8 on a shimano T-Curve Lucanus jig rod, PE2 rated. I'm running 30 pound Tuf line on it. It was pretty much the heaviest rod that suited the reel and it gets mainly used for float lining and bottom bashing.

This is a photo of my 15 month old Tyrnos 16 - starting to look like a cane toad! (with 50lb spectra and Shimano t-Curve 400 - all works very well).

Both my Tyrnos (12+20) are exhibiting the same...always washed after use and sprayed with inox...no issues with reels performance, but yeah, bit disappointed with the corrosion.

I have the same corrosion on a Torium. Pretty poor quality metals being used

both my 20s have the exact same thing an i wash them with warm water after every use an then spray with inox on the side plates:-? . seems its a common thing with them, but no complaints with their performance

Dont all Shimano reels have a 10 year warranty? Have any of you guys contacted Shimano about the corrosion issues?

Have contacted Shimano Australia and they say the reel is not affected, it's only cosmetic and I can buy a new frame for about $70. I got mine in Japan so couldn't be bothered going after the warranty.

This is the dude to talk to ... Jordon McKeon [jordonm@shimanofish.com.au]

The Malayasian shimanos seem to have a problem with this.......I have a Torium 30 with a blistering aswell.....the reel is 5 years old now though and fished from open boats.

i nearly bought one of these reel a few months back but had heard about the corrossion issues which at the time was very surprising for shimano. they are a very nice reel though. i think i may choose a saltist instead.
