forecast look good so decided to chase some mackerel early and come back into the Pine River for some flathead. got out across the bay under nice flat conditions. spotted some birds working some baitfish and threw a slug around but they were a bit shy and difficult to get close without spooking them. gave up and anchored at a beacon and started burleying with pilchards and using lures. not much activity at all which was disppointing with strong winds. decided to shoot back across into the piney. conditions were choppy. anchored at a feeder drain and threw out a pillie while i tied a knot to use lures. rod buckled over after about a minute and could feel some weight to it, thought it was nice flattie but to my surprise was a small cobia.

didnt catch any flathead with the placcys unfort although i did work at em. shot back across to cabbage tree was rough with 2.0 metre waves and heaps of chop. heaps of rain. pretty ordinary day really.

anyway, some piccys

Mate isnt it raining up your way?It has been pouring up the coast.
Nice cobia mate for the pine. I had one of them surprises at Yamba once when fishing for flathead pulled up one about that size on a live herring.

Mate, that is INSANE! Never actually seen a river-caught cobes, but I'm sure it's happened plenty of times. Either way sensational surprise for ya.
