Took the boat out to the Pine River this afternoon for a fish and to see how much it had changed since the floods. It is a very different river, and it is going to take awhile to find all the holes and structure. Had no trouble finding bait and with one cast of the net filled the bait tank with herring, mullet and prawns. I put a mullet out and started a drift 500 meters downstream from Deep Water Bend, had only gone five minutes when the reel started screaming. This fish took 75 meters of line in a couple of seconds, big strong tail beats and head shakes, it ran straight back up the river against the tide which was flowing quite strong, and within 30 seconds it had bitten through the 20 pound leader, I can only guess what it might have been but it was big. Had no touches after that so decided to see how the pylons of the new fishing platform were. I thread a couple of prawns onto a lightly weighted hook and threw it upstream and let it drift back to the pylons, feeling a soft take I set the hook into what I thought was a little bream, so you can imagine how surprised I was when a decent Flathead came up next to the boat, the fish took off and I fumbled for the net, and after some good runs I soon had it in the boat. So my first outing back to the Pine after the floods went well and now I have a new old fishing ground to explore.

Nice one , the big run would have more than likely been a bully, they are suckers for a live bait . Ya scored a nice flathead there for a feed anyway and your right about how much the pine has changed. some of the mud banks have now cleaned up with nice white/yellow sand banks underneath. the Pine always needed a good flush . now we just gotta flush the vomit out that tamper with your vehicles while your out having a fish. Cheers Andrew
