Havent really been having much luck last few weeks on the soft plastics so thought i would brave the wind and rain yesterday day and give it a solid bait session.
Tide was almost low and all my usual haunts where blown out so thought id give it a go just around from the mouth.
First cast of the net managed to get a full spread and pull in 30 or so herring perfect this could be a good day.
So we wet our lines an wasnt long till we started feeling the pesky nibbles of bream. managed a to catch a few each and my mate with a 40cm flattie then my line starts screaming off down stream and im thinking im on to something decent while trying to reel it back against the current which was still running fast due to all the rain flowing out. finnaly got it to shore and only ended up being another bream but going a shamefull :-[ pb of 31cm.
Decide to switch it up a bit and strip up a big pike id recently caught and a decent size trevally my mate had ashamedly taken home and didnt eat.:o .
Few casts later on the trevor bait and i feel my line go tight give it a pull and think im snagged give it a harder pull again and the line rips off this time i knew i was on to a bigger fish and with the head shakes going on i instantly thought flathead low and behold after a nice little fight i pull in a pb going 67cm.
Quite stoked at this stage i get back out there and this time my mates line goes off this thing was stripping line out like crazy eventually it tires and he starts reeling back the 50metres or so of line between him and the fish against the current dragging scarily close to all the snags on the way with what ended up being a nice size tailor on the end and a first for that species from him.
Next half an hour got real quite with only bream bites, a few big showers and a insane amount of sand fly activity so we hit the track. Me happy with 2 pbs and my canadian buddy ticking of yet another species from his must catch list while his here. he tells me a jack or jew is next on his cards. i wish him luck with that one. haha
All fish realeased to fight another day
