First like to thank anyone that has answered my numerous questions on plastics, over the last 2 years .
4AM Heading for a land based spot, near woombah a guy told me about ,I wanted to be early to see the changes as the tide dropped ,wow great pissing down with rain 30 knots from the southeast hmmm, this will be fun.
I did everything except down size my leader from 20lb to 8lb or 10 lb ,as i can not see as good as i could a few years ago ,It was dam near impossible to Tye a slim beauty.Ill get a pair of those magnify glasses and try them .So i hoped that they could not see the 20 lb fluro carbon ,a Sqidgy fish 70mm in Green Grunter colour its black on top and clear gold with a red tail ,First cast was at 5.30 am the tide was howling out .The rain was starting to ease and blue sky could be seen and the wind started to ease. I fished a secluded spot ,out of the main flow nothing, slow lifts letting it pause before i lifted the rod again,7am bang the rod loaded and my guts tingled and i got all fuzzy inside ,bugger me i got something.I slid a nice flatty up on the sand out with the measuring stick ,wicked 40cm that's a keeper in the old Hessian sack that had been washed so many times with rain had lost that sweet fishy smell.A few more casts and nothing ,so i move to another spot ,donned me booties and started to wade out in the water ,a few flicks around the area only in knee deep water ,flicking out to the main channel now and then nothing. As the cloud lifted i could see a patch of slightly different colored water .I wonder if i might get snagged oh well here goes its only a plastic it hit the bottom a pause the a slow lift and oh no I'm snagged.then the rod bent and line started peeling from the spool, wohhhhhhhhhh its no snag ,keeping the head down and slowly making my way to the beach, the head shakes were great I got to my leader and then i saw it it was thrashing around jumping out the water ,I slid it up on the sand and well all i was thinking was no more crap fish from the supermarket. This was just over 50cm a change of plastic that one was destroyed a 70 mm wigler in black and silver ghost.I cast in the same area and bang again ,another nice one over 40 cm well that's nearly tea,I got 2 more about 8.30 The tide was supposed to be low,it was still roaring out hmm i noted the difference well over an hour and a half before it started to slow down .I try the stiffy minnow and give that a bash now do i wind slowly or what so i tried different methods i had just a bout tried everything then what I pull the rod fast to the sid it made a fast vibrating feel through the rod then i paused ,then bang alright .I ended up with 5 over 40cm and 1 over 50 cm .I lost 5 or 6 good fish on the stiffy .No huge hall and no record breakers but ,after wondering if i had run over a china man in a previous life after not catching anything for 2 years :o I was stoked .
I even cleaned them at home flicking scales everywhere outside and Oh man what a feeling,i even got the chance to try out my Kershaw filleting knife i got 3 years ago.My Little Lady who had given up on plastics ,cant wait to go fishing Sat lol
Cheers for now and thanks heaps fellers.;D

nice! didnt take you long at all mate. well done!! Just goes to show that some days it doesnt happen and others its a hoot.

i normally dont scale my fish but skin them. can be difficult with flatties due to their shape but still ok to skin. just flatten them a touch. some people like the skin so each to their own.

looks like you had a ball mate.

cheers

Congrads on the great session.

In case you did want to skin them next time - the best way is to knock the fillet off then make a small incision in between the flesh and skin on the thick end of the fillet in the top corner. Then get your thumb and press it in and sort of work it in a bit to separate the skin from the flesh. Then once you have separated it enough you can get hold of the skin with one hand and the flesh with the other and rip the skin striaght off without any loss of flesh.

I dont know if that made sense. I tried to find a video to give a visual but couldnt find anything. One of the old guy thats lives on Moreton showed me this years ago and i havent done it any other way since.

cheers

Christ you must be hungry blackjew! 2 years!:o :o ::) Good work on the persistance mate!! I would have given up long ago

I usually leave the skin on my flatties but have skinned them a few times with a bit of difficulty. Taste great on the barbie with the skin on though..

Cheers,

Lachie
