hit the river last night about 7.30 ish...and ran into 3 blokes who had just come back in from out the bay...I think it was bustaonenut and his crew.
first mission was to check out some prawn spots to see what was going on and then take it from there.
went to a favourite little haunt I know normally holds prawns and had a few casts that produces a handfull of nice banana's and some herring so into the livie bucket they go and on with the air pump....then get the hell out of there fast because the mozzies were thicker than the prawns.
I was thinking of heading up towards the bridge to fish but thought the report I read on here may have been a bogus location just to put us off the trail so I went to the front of the river to have a crack at a pile of structure I was told about.
got to spot X and dropped the pick and put out a live prawn on one rod and a live herring on the other.
didn't take long for the prawn to get slammed and me get dragged through the bricks to be done over...bastard!!!
re rigged and out go's another prawn...round two to the fish again.....up the leader to 40lb.
round 3....done over again...starting to get a bit pissed by now.
round 4....yep you guessed it...done again...THATS IT PISSED NOW!!
rig up another live prawn and just dropped it straight down till it hit the bottom and then wound it up just off the bottom and wait.
didn't take long for the this ungodly bite to come up the line to say your prawn just got screwed and then the weight to follow so I set the hooks and really stood on this thing so it couldn't drag me through the bricks again....lots of weight and lots of head shakes told me it wasn't a jack but a jew and fair enough up comes a nice jew at 83cm....and thats a good cuople of feeds fish so into the esky it go's.
hooked up another live prawn and dropped it straight down again to be allmost instantly hammered by another jew but this one was much larger and I'm on fire ...or so I thought....after a couple of good runs and some nasty head shaking it pulled the hooks...BASTARD AGAIN!!..and before I could wind my line in the live herring that I dropped straight down gets slammed and I'm on again but this one was smaller around the 60cm ish mark so back it go's to grow some more.
by now I had run out of live prawns and the herring had karked it and the jew didn't want to know about them so I called it last drinks and headed back to the ramp.
fresh jewie for dinner tonight....bring on next weekend.
sorry no pics as I'm lousy with a camera and even worse at trying to load them.;D
tight lines guys

If you eat farmed chicken or farmed salmon at any time, it has eaten a lot more sh*t than any of the fish you might pull out of the river at the moment. The water quality in the average Tasmanian salmon pen would be rated at least twenty times lower than the Brisbane River right now.

Thats easy to say but where is the proof ,The water quality in the river is dubious at best since the flood but up to you what crap you eat ..matt

it was the healthiest and tastiest jewie I've eaten in years and not a worm to be found in it.
I grew up on flood run fished jew and I'd rather eat them instead of all the process foods these days with all the additives and colours that get shoved in them...I should know as I work for a frontline food ingredient manufacturing company...and let me tell you ....I'll take the jew.

Good jews there and a good fight. Hey i have been eating tailor from the river from last week and i am not dead yet. I even fillited and put them on another fillet board to debone just in case t keep dirty skin off the meat. I still cant believe you got dusted on 40 pound leader. Were u using braid or mono as my 80cm jew came up with 20 pound leader and didnt put up a huge fight compared to its size (about a 10th of a snapper that size) interesting they are there but there are a lot of bait fish at the mouth and boggy.

If you beleive all the reports the media gives you. The brisbane river is a big toxic waste dump. I would personally stay away from it for the next couple decades. ;D.
