I had the same thing happen to a 20 year old 41/2" star drag. Took it to alvey factory, result, just as Greg said.

gee if you're an alvey fan you probably have a lot of them, and the parts from 20yr old models are still compatible with todays models in a lot of cases. Probably fix it yourself with parts from a spare, i do :D

Probably lost a fish of a lifetime in the process.
That reminds me, i was at the Pennyfarther in 2007 and this old fart, that was with us was using an old wooden alvey to catch a shark off the sand bar. Anyway he hooks this thing and if it wasn't for us three blokes holding all the bits on the reel, he would never have landed the baby shark.

Aaahh Scott and Greg...Best I say nothing..I've already said enough but its a lot of fun...
Then I remembered that pic of the girl with the yellow Alvey in the sand and thought 'That could've been Scott one day with his reel in the sand and playing with his matchbox toys..Then someone like Greg would come along and dunk the reel in the salt and say with wink " there you go young fella thats the yearly service for ya"....:)

Bugger off. I never played in the sand near saltwater with Matchbox cars.
They would have got all rusty.
But I did have a sandpit for the Tonka trucks.
Really sad thing was that was only about 15 years ago ::)

Is it worth fixing if an undersize fish broke it?
