View Full Version : how do you use downriggers?

Hi guys wondering if anyone can give me a crash course on using a downrigger. i got one and of course no instuctions. i understand the principle- trolling livies at a set depth- but not to sure how to set it up and use it. thanks.

what type is it? have you mounted it on the boat? do you have a mounting for a rod holder? i presume there's a base that you fix to the boat, then can remove/mount the down rigger as required.

A few more details and we'll be able to get you going I'm sure.

I have a Canon Sports Troll, which is a pretty basic set up. I'm in the process of moving it from the tinny to the glass boat.

Hi jono its a no name cheapy, thought i'd start cheap till i get the hang of it then graduate. Yep there is a base i can attach to the boat. it came with a rod holder that attaches to the top of it, the arm with a pulley on the end that attaches to the front. there is a meter counter on the side. other then that i'm left with a massive sinker an a lengh of wire with a large clip on the end.:)

All sorted, i got on you tube and worked it out, its easy then i thought. easy then finding a day to go use it.:(
