G'day
I have a Garmin gpsmap550 and am about to purchase a gpsmap76c hand held... and apparently it doesn't come preloaded with the charts, only option is to buy them on a micro SD card later on.
Seeing as I already have them (in the other unit) is there a way to copy the files from the 550 onto the computer so I can put the files onto microSD card to use in the hand held unit later?

No Dave,
the files are all locked up in software so they cant be copied.. otherwise you would see them being sold on the black market for nics

Yes you will need the mapsource software
have you done it?
Hi Blackened
PM me for some details that may help if you do not succeed with other posters advice
Depending on which version of Bluechart you have, they may be a bit hard to decompile for Mapsource view if G2 or G2 Vision

Dave,
Gary is right, they are encrypted using the SD (secure Digital) serial number on the card, you can copy them but if they are not on the card you cant use them.
There was a thread about this not so long ago, bay of E, buy from canada for 99.00 or aus 350.00.
If you want to continue to manage your marks and routes etc, you can still use blue chart, but you, might want to look into Garmin Homeport.
Homeport will allow you to view the maps on your computer, worthy investment, given it is only 50.00 aus. you will be suprised at the detail of the new maps.

HOnda.
Hey Dave,
I bought a gpsmap 78sc off this bloke on ebay.
The bluechart for aust and nz comes embedded on the machine leaving the s.d. card slot for other mapping such as toppo or street maps.
He's a local bloke and the deal went through very smoothly.

p.m. me if you want any more info.
He also has the other accesories and cards as required.

Dave,
what you could try is,
attach your new gps to your computer, usb, serial etc..
open mapsource and select the transfer menu. select send to device, and select maps.
I have tried this unsuccessfully on another device, but it might be device specific, worth a try.
Regards
Honda.
