Checked out the bream in the Pine this morning, launching about 5.00am with the tide just starting to run in. The water was still discolored but there was a slight salty taste even at the low. By the high it was quite salty and there were only small bits of debris now and then.

About 9.00 am a couple of coppers in inflatables came up and asked me if I was going to go up the river beyond the junction of the north and south pine, because the river would be closed while new powerlines were strung across the river and I wouldn't be able to get back down for quite a while if I did. I replied that I was only going to fish the bridges until the turn and then quit so it didn't concern me.

The breaming was reasonable with a few quality fish among the general run of fish which averaged about 27cm. Kept 11 and released 5 (of which 2 had ulcers) and 6 catfish. Not the best bite but enough to show that the fish are returning. Didn't try for prawns because of the river closure but one of the river trawlers was working up the South Pine for quite a few hours so there might be a few starting to show.

Nice catch and good to hear she's starting to settling down. Any reports of change of depths? I've been told to take care further upsteam as alot of soil/gravel has been washed in.

Good one mate. I got a buckeload about 2 weeks ago in the nerrang, I was chasing jacks and kept landing big bream all night. Cant complain though. I swear i catch more bream in summer than in winter

I'm sure there'll be a lot of changes robfin. I'd be especially careful in any of the shallow areas before charging around at or near low water. The shallows just upstream from Dohle's Rocks would be one place I'd have a close look at for sure, and the mouth of the Pine out beyond the bridges was getting very shallow before the floods. It will be interesting to see what depth is there now. The floods may have actually scoured out some areas making them deeper than before, but the sediment has to go somewhere and I'd be pretty sure that a lot has been dumped where the river meets the open bay.

Yes John - the ramp is open and the ramp pontoon is OK, but the pontoon next to it is off limits with the access walkway bent and twisted, I guess from the pressure of accumulated flood debris. That means you may have to battle the cast netters on the ramp pontoon when launching and retrieving your boat. So what else is new?

I'm green with envy Peter. I'm desparate to get down to Iluka for a shot at some jew while the water is still dirty, but I've got all these doctors wanting to shove cameras and other paraphenalia into places where the sun doesn't shine and I can't get away until that's all finished and I'm given the OK. After that I'm off!!!
