hey guys
had a flick this morning in the canals and caught this fish
looked like a jack but was real yellow underneath and had a darker dorsal fin.
definately looked like a Lutjanid species but didnt have the spots of a moses or stripes of a jack....any ideas?

red bass maybe??

Cheers,

Ben

the pic doesnt really show but the fish was actually quite red,
at first one could almost confuse for a juvenile jack

Here's a way off shot... How about a new hydrid.... Mangrove jack X Moses perch.?
The colour of both species is there, the stornch robust build of the fish is there also. How about this for a name, call your new found species a MOJACK.....(Just an idea!)
Cheers

hmm its a weird one hey,
it was definately not the standard moses perch,

that first one in the pic looked more like it Viper Fish

A bit difficult to tell from that photo but it could be either a yellow lined sea perch or most likely a dark tailed sea perch.
It is definitley not a Red Bass or Moses perch. My vote is for the dark tailed sea perch.

Looks like it. Last link is to what I thought it was, first two are to what it probably is. Still a close call though.

He's a strange one that's for sure. I think everyone has pretty much summed it up though. I bet you stared at him for a while when you landed him :o
