hey guys picked up a cpl of brand new berkley dropshot jig sticks for next to nothing one 10 - 24kg and the other 15 - 37kg im going to keep one and sell the other which one im going to keep yet im unsure of however i dont do much jigging the idea is to just set one up with a good quality spin reel sumthing that will handle 80lb braid for a good solid bottom bashing setup. i havnt had much experience with larger spin reels as all i tend to use is 6500 bait runners looking to spend under 500 bucks and so far i was thinking the daiwa saltist spin pe6
any other possibilitys guys is greatly apreciated

Firstly I must admit I wouln't use an eggbeater with 80lb line but a mate of mine did get one of those Diawa Saltiga reels for over $1K to use with 80lb braid - hasn't used it in anger yet.
Really for 80lb line you need strength and a good drag.
So far I have been of no use to you BUT I did see in modern fishing today tuff tackle Diablo Sniper 10 000 RRP $750 Now $399 so I had a look at the t u f f t a c k l e site at the spec on this reel rated 80 to 130lb line 66lb of drag and 15yr warrantee. The 12 000 has 55lb of drag $450. They sell direct.
Are tuff tackle good - don't know. They are Australian.
Personally I would grit my teeth spend too much and hang on like hell so it didn't go over the side ;D
I prefer overheads for heavy line - but that's just me.

thanks trev. totally understand what you mean by overheads for bigger line etc. i probly wont use 80lb in the end but maybe more 60lb i currently run 50lb code red on my oheads. simply just looking at a good sized spin reel that will handle heavy line to match up to this 15-37kg jig stick however keep in mind i have no intention of looking the reel up and giving the fish no line.just trying to find a subtle medium for a reasonable price as i like fishing deep water with a good spin reel especially for abit of bottom bashing.

Shimano Saragosa might be worth a look.

If your get you hands on a half decent spin reel there is no reason why it shouldn't be able to handle 80lb. The Saragosa 18000 and spheros 14000(with a few mods) have both made it into my tackle kit and both run 80lb braid no worries. They get used for jigging, live baiting and occassional trolling.

IMO 80lb is fine with an eggbeater if you are happy with precautions such as gloves.
Your biggest risk with jigging is the fish will frequently take off with jig whilst bail arm is open - you just try and put it back over with line peeling off. By the time you get it over the fish is back home.
Jigging is better with an overhead and preferably a lever drag.
The eggbeater beats the overhead hands down when casting poppers especially into wind or at structure where the flight of the lure suddenly stops but the reel spool doesn't on an overhead.
My 2cents worth.

alrighty me being me already made my decision and stuck with my original thought of the 6500 saltist. i had a look at the saragosa but to me personally the saltist felt alot more balanced. i think the saragosa could handle a touch more drag but i dont need all the drag at the end of the day. one of my local stores did me a good price on it aswell which matched mo tackles price so i could not say no. im happy with my decision as it matched up to the 10-24kg dropshot stick lovely. so marty aka captain seaweed gets the 15-37kg stick god i cant want to watch him try and reel up the bottom on that !! :D
thanks again guys for your input it gave me alot to think about .
