how many crab pots are people useing per person.
I have been crabbing in the same place for the last couple of weeks, and have noticed alot of people doing the wrong thing. eg sinking pots and exceeding the legal amout of pots. one guy was in a boat on his own checking a line of 12 pots, another guy had not only sunk his pots but had seven too many pots. It is these ppl that are stuffing it for everyone, there are limits for a reason. its not against the law at the moment to carry too many pots on your boat but very soon it is going to be.

4 per person is the legal limit, As far as i am aware if you have more than 4 pots on your boat with only 1 person then that is illegal, if you have pots and no floats, that is illegal, But the reason a lot do it is that the chances of getting caught are slim, i could not tell you the last time i even saw fisheries either on the water or at a boat ramp and i am out nearly every weekend.

Yep 4 per person. Lethal i rang fisheries yesterday with a question about labelling and they said you do not have to have floats, if the pot is attached to something above the high water mark but the label must also be above high water mark. Ben

Crab pots and dillies must be marked by an identifying tag bearing the surname and address of the owner.
When not attached to a fixed object (for example tied to a tree above the high water mark), all crab apparatus must have a light coloured surface float attached. The float must not be less than 15 cm in any dimension and must be marked clearly with the owner's name.
When tied to a fixed object, a tag must also be attached to part of the rope that is above the high water mark. The tag must be marked clearly with the owner's name.
This from DPI, now this is where it gets weird, YOU cannot tie anything to a mangrove or a channel marker. So unless you were shore based i cannot understand what else you could possibly tie your crab pot to. So I stand corrected on the float thing,
