berley for whiting

hey there guys just wondering would it be worth berleying for whiting whilst at anchor as i have tried hard to catch more than one and failed jethro:-[

Jethro, you could use a small amount of chopped up bits of worm or yabbies but the risk is you could attract bream.

They will be more aggressive and beat the whiting to the bait - pesky little buggers.

Some oldtimers used to mix crushed Soldier Crabs with sand and got good results around the mouth of the Noosa River

Don't anchor, try drifting instead, they respond well to a moving bait.
Try worms or yabbies, or failing that, prawns.

cheap way tp Berley is a tin of cat food-- pilchards or similar and a few cat pellets if you want to give it a try.

Personally drifting is better.

I also have started dyeing my squid red to help attract them. seems to work ok.

Big issue here is... which whiting are you talking about?

Sometimes I select a bank to fish that dries at low tide and bury about 6 inches down prawn heads and shells from a previous feed. Come back about mid tide or later and start fishing the area. The schools of whiting mill around the outsides of the prawn patch for most of the tide trying to locate the sources.
