View Full Version : Humminbird 798 question.

Looking at the humminbird 798 sounder/gps combos,but keep getting diffrent answers on the depth these are able to run to.Any advice from anyone who owns one of these or similar side image units would be great.Thanks Stephen.

I have a 798;D . The book says 500m in 2d and 50m out to the sides
It's a awesome unit ;D

I have 797 si and the si isn't much chop in more than 20m, although others may be better at using it. (it harder than a pc sometimes). The 2d is awesome, i have only had it to 60m though because you can head out 100km up here and thats as deep as it gets!

can you other guys get the green zones to show up on yours?

I cant get mine to show on screen.

Yeah the unit is great si is great after you have a play with the settings trick is to not look at 40m of water all the time eg if your in 15m only look out the side about 25m so if there are fish they aren't the size of one pixel! I wouldn't go any smaller!

As for the green zones the are on there when you load navionics gold maps !

The green zone is just a thin line on the border of the zone

Thanks for the info,i ended up ordering a 898si.The bigger screen will help a bit more in the deeper water.

awesome pics pig! is that saltwater? mine is nowhwere near that clear but i think i might be trying to look at too much at once.

i have the navonics gold card but im not happy with the green zones. when i run the 997 in my small boat it is the only unit.

in my bigger boat i run a navman as well. nothing seems to compare to the navman for gps i reckon, they show the green zones like the gprma maps, but there sounders are sh*t.
