Hello

My boat will sometimes be parked on the road so am looking for marine radios with a removable faceplate to deter the thieves.

There are no issues with the amfm radio with several models around with removabe face plate but I cannot find VHF or 27MHZ products.

I would like to mounted them in an overhead console on an open hardtop.

Has anyone else had to deal with this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Peter,
I have never seen a marine transceiver with a removable face plate. This most likely due to IP rating they have (ability to be waterproof).

Thanks for that Leigh. That was my conclusion as well.

Maybe I can weld the radio to the bulkhead. That should slow them down.

Just make sure that you weld the bracket without the radio set being anywhere nearby, otherwise it could end up being an expensive ornament.:(

If they are bracket mounted they can be very quicly removed.....the GME radios are very shallow.

OR

use a flush mount kit and replace all the fasteners with something tamperproof like hex or torks screws

all modern marine radios have to be 30 minute 1m immersion rated......not compatable with removable fronts.

the other thing is to put some strips of velcro or press studs above and below and cover them up with cloth same colour as the dash when parked..

Ya got think devoius.

cheers

Thanks for the tips.

Looks like I will be getting the GME with face plate and using velcro.
