Guys,
I have an interface cable that Grand Marlin (Pete) kindly rewired but for some reason will not work. Before i throw it in the bin does anyone out there have this set up and would you be able to assist if i sent it over to hook it up and see if it works.
I have tried everything with both Pete and Navico and still nothing.
Thanks

That's the adaptor cable but the one i have that i think is faulty is the interface cable with Suzuki written on it.
Thanks

The one with Suzuki on it is the ep20, this should be plugged in to your nmea network. your network should be terminated at both ends, and powered. Also a tee piece to your HDS.
Was it ever working?
why do you think its faulty?

Yes, dont quite throw the towel in yet. No doubt Grand Marlin has done everything possible for you but there may be other issues.
Two things to check come to mind:
1. make sure you have the latest software on the Suzuki Interface cable. It should be version 2.30 or similar. This new version has sorted many of the problems people have been having. If you need a copy of the update file, let me know and I'll email it to you;
2. Double check the Suzuki engine MODEL year, and made sure its correctly set in the Suzuki interface menu. Remember, model year is frequently different to the purchase year - best way to be sure is to write down engine serial number and call Suzuki dealer, they will be able to confirm model year for you. (this issue was at the core of resolving another similar case recently)

How do you find out what the latest software is on the interface cable. I am unable to even get it seen on the HDS unit.
My motor is an 07 model motor but again where does this information go in updating and configuring for it all to work.
Is there something i have missed.
After speaking with Grang Marlin and Navico it appears that the set up is correct from the motor to the head unit but I still cant find in the device list or anywhere else the set up.
Might be time to put a Merc on the back with smartcraft and be done with it. (just jokes)

By the way unit has never worked. Have had back to a few dealers to get rewired or wired up properly but still no success. As i live in a remote part of SA it is very hard to find someone who knows what they are talking about or even gives a toss. SA has to be one of the worst states for marine service.

Stabi,
firstly I will assume Pete has got you sorted on the basic connections.
Secondly, dont do any software updates until you know the device is available, once you have the device up and running with good power supply then do the updates.
From the settings menu;
Network menu;
go into the device list menu, and see if the EP60 is listed, if it is not, then there is likely a connection issue.Page 107 in your manal, start there and let me know what you see.

Still no good.
Going to get it back to Pete to see what else before i thow it away.
Nothing in the device list. Don't know what else to do. Might just bite the bullet and buy a new cable.

Stabi,
can you describe how the devices connected?
do you have power to the nmea network and does it have a ground?
Pete, will give you good info and advice..

So hard to go through everything over the phone.
It sounds like it is the EP20 interface cable that is the problem, but it could just be something simple we are overlooking.
The software update they are talking about is for the HDS unit, not the interface cable.
You already have version 3.0 on the unit.
Either send it back up and I will chase down a motor and try it out up here.
Or I can send you a new one down to try out.
By the way guys, you don't have to spend extra money on all the K8 adaptors as pictured above. I have found a way around all of that.
Also interesting, the wiring pattern that comes from the Suzuki Factory Interface Cable is WRONG!!
Cheers

Hi Pete
Not sure if you were referring to my post where I mentioned appltying a software update, but the software update I referred to is in fact an update to the Suzuki interface, not for the HDS itself. Lowrance Australia were not aware of this update until I let them know a couple of months ago. We managed to get this update from Lowrance USA.
If you'd like a copy PM me with your email address and I will send you a copy. It fixes several issues with the interface cable not interpreting signals from the Suzuki ECU correctly - particularly fuel flow accuracy, and associated problems such as retaining the engine selection information. Several of us have applied this software update and so far it seems to be working OK and resolved the issues we were having.

No problems Mate,
It is the first one we have had any trouble with - hence why I think it is the cable itself.
Even the first batch of cables combined with 07 model motors we have had working fine.
Moonlighter, thanks for the info.
As far as I am aware, any updates needed for hardware like the EP20 are included in the later HDS updates.
Obviously as the update programs are first developed they can be put in individually.
They do the same with the radar updates.
Cheers
Pete
