View Full Version : Paradise Dam
Hi all,
Has anyone fished Paradise Dam?
Interested in if any bass, barras or goldens have been caught.
Debating if it's worth a trip there.

Fished it three times for no result..Parts of the system have been stocked and you do here about the odd capture. Its needs a stocking group with lots of funds and it could become a great fishery

stopped there on the way home from mondy for a look Its bigger than i thought or expected Pleanty of fish Luke no barra though Cheers Timbo
Hi Tim,
From photos I've seen, it looks like it is a nice piece of water.
Might have to make a detour next time I'm in the area as it's only 80k or so west of Gin Gin.
It would be great to have some serious stocking effort put into it.
Barra, bass, goldens, sooties, togas, jacks !!!
I have a copy of a report about future uses after the dam was built and stocking/fishing was well up on the agenda as the shires round the dam were well aware of the $$ the travelling fishos bring into an area.

Tim,
there is barra in there, but they are not stocked there..they have been washed down the burnett from pre-existing stocking in the gayndah weir.
There has been applications to stock Paradise, however, they have been declined due to the lungfish and ass breathing turtles that live there.
Cheers Steve

What a lame excuse for not stocking the dam. From what I've seen in NPD, Somerset & Wivenhoe, lungfish and turtles seems to be doing quite well in dam environments.
It's time we had a government that stopped pandering to the greens.

Sorry Luke, according to Peter Garret, there are no Lungfish in Wivenhoe. If he'd known they were there he wouldnt' have allowed the recycled water pipeline to go ahead. I've spent a day on Paradise, a couple of years ago. Plenty of Forkies showing on the sounder, and some huge bait schools near the wall. It's only a few k's from Childers, near Biggenden. Heading south, just before Childers turn right to Biggenden. The rest of the way is signposted. You can also access it from a bridge further up. Turn right in Biggenden. It is a awsome looking dam, but be very very careful you don't step on a butt breathing turtle.
Hi Dale,
And of course Peter Garrett is an authority on lungfish ;D;D;D;D;D;D;D
Personally, I'd find it very hard to believe him that there are no lungfish in Wivenhoe or the river below.
Reading on the Qld government wedsite indicates that the main danger to the ass breathing turtles is the destruction of their nests/eggs by trampling from cattle and feral pigs/foxes.

You would have to think that breathing through your ass wouldnt be the best for your health either ;D

Snodge, Constipation would be a problem for your Arse breathers. I my self breath out through my arse from time to time but I can't talk through it like politicians or some......
Doh! nearly fell victim to temptation.
As for paradise it has a real hurdle getting patronage with established fisheries so close I suppose.

Its a nice looking piece of water Daryl. Its a pity its probably not going to be stocked.
Come to think of it Luc, I did here a report about 2 months ago about a 6 or 700 barra being caught in a bay there, but that's the only one I have heard of.
All we need to do is get those stocking groups that stock the river upstream from the dam to massively increase the stocking rate and the numbers in Paradise dam will increase ;)
The skiers & jet ski fraternity will be glad us pesky fishermen are not there.:P
Probably will still visit the place so I can cross it off my list of dams to have a fish in.

Luc, your right..I personally dont mind if its not stocked...its currently a happy harmony....skieers at paradise....fisherman at Monduran.:);D
It suits me...nothin worse than skiers buzzin around Mondy.
Steve
Hi Steve,
But if the skiers & jet skis hit too many turtles, they may be banned!!!
Any news on how Mondy is fishing?

Sorry Luc,
Not sure. I have been working all week. Got some days off, but not sure if I will be heading up. Its a shame really, the 2 best months (Aug and Sept) and bugger all stable weather. That doesnt help with the fishing.
Cheers Steve
I may be in Gin Gin in a couple of weeks & am debating whether to tow the tinny up for a couple of hours of fishing.
